Earthquake of 6.1 magnitude hits Afghanistan, at least 1,000 killed

An earthquake of 6.1 magnitude killed at least 1,000 people and 1,500 people got injured in Afghanistan early on Wednesday.
The checks were being conducted to see if the casualty toll might rise, Afghanistan’s disaster management officials said.
News agency Reuters confirmed that the majority of deaths were reported in Afghanistan’s Paktika province, where 100 people were killed and 250 injured. The report said deaths were also reported in the eastern provinces of Nangarhar and Khost.
As per the US Geological Survey (USGS), the quake struck about 44km from the city of Khost in southeastern Afghanistan at a depth of 51km while there were no damage or deaths were reported in Pakistan.
In a tweet, European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said that shaking was felt over some 500 km by about 119 million people in Pakistan, Afghanistan and India. It was felt in Afghanistan’s capital, Kabul, as well as Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, the EMSC tweeted.
Strong and long jolts, a resident of the Afghan capital, Kabul, posted on EMSC website. It was strong, said a resident of the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar.

Afghanistan has been suffering from a severe economic crisis since the Taliban took over in August. It came after the US army had withdrawn its troops from Afghanistan after 28 years.
In response to the Taliban takeover, many governments have imposed sanctions on Afghanistan’s banking sector and cut billions of dollars worth of development aid.

Indian yoga teacher and practitioner, Yash Mansukhbhai Moradiya created a Guinness World Record by holding the scorpion pose for almost 30 minutes. The official handle of GWR shared a video and wrote, ‘Longest time to hold the scorpion position 29 min 04 sec by Yash Mansukhbhai Moradiya.’ It also mentioned that Moradiya broke the previous record of four minutes and 47 seconds.

Preeti Maske, cyclist
Hailing from Maharashtra, the cyclist Preeti Maske, is now the fastest woman to cycle solo from Leh to Manali. She started cycling from Leh on June 22 to Manali and covered over 430 kilometres. Maske reached her destination in 55 hours and 13 minutes on Friday.

Former Miss Brazil Gleycy Correia passed away at the age of 27 after suffering complications from routine surgery to have her tonsils removed.

Former Miss Brazil Gleycy Correia passed away at the age of 27 after suffering complications from routine surgery to have her tonsils removed. The former beauty queen suffered a brain hemorrhage and a heart attack immediately after the operation. She died at a private clinic on Monday.
According to the reports, Correia, who was crowned Miss United Continents Brazil in 2018, died after two months of falling into a coma. The reports said Correia underwent surgery in April, but due to some issues, the 27-year-old suffered from heavy bleeding that caused a cardiac arrest on April 4, and as a result of this, she fell into a coma. Correia’s body has been sent to a medical examiner for an autopsy.
Correia’s family pastor, Lidiane Alves, told the international news portal, “We’re deeply saddened by this loss.” She was an amazing woman and much loved by everyone. It won’t be easy to live without her smile and shine. He further said that God chose this day to collect our princess. We know that she will be greatly missed, but she will now be brightening the sky with her smile. She fulfilled her purpose and left her legacy of love to us, he concluded.
She was born in Macae, a Brazilian city close to the Atlantic coast that is located 120 miles northeast of Rio de Janeiro. She began working at a young age, according to the reports, taking a position as a nail technician at a local beauty parlour before competing in the contest and winning the title of Miss Brazil.
Gleycy Correia was a permanent cosmetics expert who was from the city of Macaé in the southeast. She rapidly rose to fame on social media following her title victory. More than 55,000 people follow her on Instagram. After she passed away, her loved ones posted heartfelt condolences on the account.
