India has recorded 62,714 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours. The Union Health Ministry on Sunday said the Covid-19 tally in India has reached 1,19,71,624. India is now the second worst-hit country by the covid after the United States.
According to the Health Ministry data, 312 people have died due to the coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours. The country’s death toll stands at 1,61,552. There are 4,86,310 active cases in the country, out of which maximum cases reported from Punjab, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh and Gujarat.
Health Ministry said Maharashtra has witnessed the highest covid-19 spike in the country with 35,952 fresh covid cases in a day, followed by 2,661 in Punjab and 2,523 in Karnataka.
In view of rising coronavirus cases in the country, several states have imposed night curfew and banned public Holi celebrations to control the spread of covid infections.
The Punjab government has imposed night curfew in the state and banned public Holi celebrations. Captain Amrinder Singh asked people to follow social distancing and other covid guidelines seriously, as the state witnessing a sudden spike in the new variant of covid-19 in the state which was first reported in the UK.
Gujarat government has allowed people to perform the Holika Dehan rituals in the state with full focus on covid-19 guidelines. Meanwhile, the government has banned the public Holi celebration in the state.
On Saturday, Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar tested positive for Covid-19. Tendulkar shared the information through his social media platform. He said he took a covid test and found himself positive with the infection. Tendulkar said he is taking all the recommended precautions to ensure Covid is kept at bay.
Former India cricketer Yusuf Pathan has tested positive for Covid-19. Pathan shared the news through his Twitter handle. He said he is tested positive for COVID-19 with no major health issues. Pathan has isolated himself at home and taking all the necessary precautions and medication required. I would request those who came in contact with me to get themselves tested at the earliest, Pathan tweeted.
