The Elephant-Headed god is popular for his knowledge, wisdom and prosperity. During this week, devotees offer prayers and they seek his blessings. Lord Ganesha have 108 different names and the names that are mentioned by the people are Gajanaana, Vinayak, Vighanharta among others.

This auspicious festival is celebrated in different parts of the country. States like Maharastra, Goa, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana celebrate this festival with full zeal and zest.

How is Ganesh Chaturthi celebrated?


Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated in a way where people bring their idols of Ganesha and set them up in their house or beautifully decorated tent. Among the chantings, idols are decorated with red sandalwood paste and with red and yellow flowers in colour.

As we know that Lord Ganesha is fond of sweets, they offer modak sweet dumplings to him as a token of love from the devotees. At the end of the festival, Lord Ganesha is transported in big trucks to river banks in a grand procession where he is accompanied by dhol and nagada. On this day, a great procession takes place and everyone dances and even sings some of the songs based on Lord Ganesha.
