There has been a latest development in the alleged kidnapping of an Arunachal Pradesh teenager by China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA). Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said that a hotline was exchanged between the Indian Army and PLA on Republic Day, and the response was positive. The Union Minister added that PLA indicated towards handing over the teenager, and suggested a place of release, as well.

PLA is most likely to announce a date and time very soon. The reason for the delay has been revealed to be bad weather on their end.

In his tweet, Union Minister Rijiju also shared the details of the entire incident. Miram Taron, a 19-year-old, hails from Jido village in Upper Siang District. He was found to be missing on January 18, 2022, at Shiyung La in Bishing Area. Some people reached out to authorities, and claimed that the teen had been kidnapped by the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

As the missing teenager belonged to an area near LAC, the Indian Army approached the Chinese immediately and asked for their cooperation in tracing the boy, and returning him to India, in case he was in China.

Following Indian Army’s approach, PLA gave the assurance that the individual will be returned as per the established protocol between the two countries. On January 20, 2022, the boy was found, and the Indian Army was asked for further details to establish his identity.

The Indian Army shared the personal details and photo of the teenager to help Chinese side in corroborating the identity. Now, the Chinese side is yet to respond.

The Union Minister assured that the case is being followed up constantly. He also urged everyone to be cautious in making any statements which are untrue and not based on facts. This will assist in the safe return of the youth to Arunachal Pradesh at the earliest.
