BMC reacts to viral video of patchwork on Mumbai Coastal Road

The BMC also mentioned that temporary repairs were implemented during the monsoon to mitigate further deterioration, assuring that a new asphalting layer would be applied according to the necessary specifications.

The ambitious Coastal Road project in Mumbai has faced significant criticism online after a viral video showcased evident patchwork on the newly constructed segment. An X user named Eternal Drift expressed disillusionment in the video, noting that, despite the project’s enormous investment of Rs 13,000 crore, the Coastal Road appears compromised and failing to meet its promise of world-class infrastructure. The user called for accountability from both the construction firm L&T and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

In their post, the user articulated: “This is beyond disappointing. Mumbai’s Rs 14,000 crore Coastal Road already looks like patchwork. I feel betrayed – this was supposed to be world-class infrastructure. L&T and BMC must be held accountable. Is this what we paid for?” They included hashtags such as #Mumbai, #CoastalRoad, and #InfrastructureFail to amplify their concerns. Additionally, they shared images of the Coastal Road condition to complement the video, which quickly amassed over 1 million views.

In response to the attention generated by the viral post, the BMC’s official account acknowledged the issue, attributing the damage to the timing of the asphalting work. They explained, “The asphalting work on the Northbound Carriageway of the bridge at Haji Ali was completed during the pre-monsoon period, which resulted in some separation at the joints of the work done in the subsequent days.” The BMC also mentioned that temporary repairs were implemented during the monsoon to mitigate further deterioration, assuring that a new asphalting layer would be applied according to the necessary specifications.

Despite this explanation, the initial poster remained unconvinced, questioning how such deterioration could occur so soon after the project’s completion. The Mumbai Coastal Road, intended to enhance connectivity from Marine Drive in South Mumbai to Kandivali in the western suburbs via the Bandra Worli Sea Link, inaugurated the eight-kilometer south-bound segment in March 2024. The second phase, inaugurated in June 2024, aims to significantly reduce travel time between Marine Drive and Haji Ali from 40-50 minutes to just eight minutes.

A Lamborghini crash in Noida Sector 94 has left two labourers injured, prompting serious concerns regarding speeding and road safety. The individuals involved in the incident, identified as Dijen Ravidas and Rambhu Kumar from Chhattisgarh, were reportedly struck by a luxury vehicle when it allegedly sped by at approximately 300 km/h.

According to reports, the two labourers were working in the area when they were hit by the Lamborghini, causing them to fall into a nearby drain. Initially taken to a local hospital, both men are said to be out of danger, although they have sustained leg fractures. Their accounts of the accident have caught media attention, particularly their claim about the excessive speed at which the car was traveling.

Citing eyewitnesses, news reports state that Ravidas recounted how the Lamborghini came toward them at a high speed of 300 kmph, leading to their unfortunate collision. However, the police have not yet verified the speed of the vehicle at the time of the accident, leaving some questions unanswered.

The driver of the Lamborghini, identified as Deepak, is a resident of Ajmer and has since been taken into custody. Authorities also confirmed that the car was registered in Puducherry. During questioning, Deepak reportedly stated that the crash occurred due to a fault in the vehicle, although further investigation is underway, and police are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

An alarming video that surfaced online captured a moment following the accident, where a bystander asked Deepak if he was aware of the injuries. Deepak’s response—an inquiry as to whether anyone had died—has raised eyebrows among those witnessing the aftermath.

Local witnesses described a scene of confusion as people gathered around the damaged vehicle, with one stating that the driver seemed unable to control the car, which ultimately collided with a roadside divider after hitting the workers.

The trailer for the horror comedy The Bhootni, featuring Sanjay Dutt, was officially launched by the filmmakers on Saturday, March 29, in Mumbai. Formerly titled The Virgin Tree, the film tells the story of a tree sprite, played by Mouni Roy, who targets virgin boys on Valentine’s Day.

Written and directed by Sidhaant Sachdev, The Bhootni boasts a talented cast that includes Sunny Singh, Palak Tiwari, and Aasif Khan. Also making his Bollywood debut in this film is Nikunj Lotia, better known as the content creator Beyounick.

The narrative unfolds in a college that becomes haunted annually by the ghost of the ‘virgin tree.’ To rid their beloved campus of its haunted reputation, a group of students seeks assistance from Baba (Sanjay Dutt), a former student who has gained fame as a ghostbuster. Interestingly, ‘Baba’ is also Dutt’s nickname in the film industry. The trailer skillfully blends comedic elements with romantic moments, accompanied by impressive CGI-driven action and horror sequences. Mouni Roy captivates the audience as the aggrieved ‘bhootni,’ showcasing her extensive experience with supernatural roles.

Hindi horror comedies have become a lucrative genre with the success of films such as Stree and Bhool Bhulaiyaa. At the launch event for Bhootni, the filmmakers emphasized that their film brings a fresh perspective to the genre, particularly with its setting in a bustling metropolitan college.

Director Sidhaant Sachdev highlighted the dedication of 65-year-old Sanjay Dutt, revealing that he performed all of his stunts personally, including an incredible jump from 40 feet without a body double. “His commitment to action filmmaking is truly impressive,” shared Sachdev.

At the event, Sanjay Dutt stated, “I have been in action films for 40 years. The power of Lord Shiva and his Shiv tandav inspired me during the shoot. We worked tirelessly until 5 am, and only the Lord knows how we managed to pull it off.”

The Bhootni is scheduled for release in theaters on April 18, 2025, promising an exciting blend of horror and humour that aims to entertain audiences.
