Pak Defence Minister’s ‘IPL floodlights hacking’ claim sparks trolling

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif claimed that the IPL match floodlights were hacked by Pakistani cyber warriors—a statement that led to widespread trolling online.

In a statement that has quickly become viral and widely mocked, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif claimed that Pakistani “cyber warriors” were responsible for a power outage during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match in India. This remark was made while addressing Pakistan’s National Assembly and has since drawn significant ridicule on social media.

Claim over IPL stadium blackout

Khawaja Asif alleged that Pakistan’s cyber operatives had managed to turn off floodlights at an IPL match venue in India, halting the game. Although he did not cite a specific match, the incident appears to refer to the IPL game on May 8 between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamshala, which was disrupted due to a technical power failure in the area. The outage had no confirmed links to any cyber operation.

Asif boasted, “India does not understand that all of this is entirely Pakistan’s indigenous technology. Our cyber warriors launched attacks on India, shut off lights in a cricket stadium in India – lights went out and the IPL match was stopped, water was released from Indian dams, their electricity grid was shut down.”

He further claimed, “All these attacks, the cyber attacks, were carried out by our warriors.”

Social media erupts with mockery

The 29-second video clip of Asif’s address was swiftly circulated on social media platform X, triggering a flurry of sarcastic and humorous responses from users. Many pointed out the impracticality and inaccuracy of his assertions.

One user commented, “I didn’t know Cyber has different concepts and syllabus in Pakistan!” while another wrote, “Just so you know—IPL floodlights don’t run on WiFi. Claiming a cyber attack for switching off stadium lights just proves one thing—you clearly did your schooling in a madarsa, not a science class.”

Another post humorously added, “If switching off lights is a cyber triumph, then my 3-year-old nephew is a global threat. He once unplugged the Wi-Fi during a Zoom meeting.”

Not the first controversial claim

Khawaja Asif is no stranger to controversial remarks. In the aftermath of India’s Operation Sindoor—targeted strikes in Pakistan and PoK to retaliate against the Pahalgam terror attack—Asif had also claimed that Pakistan’s air force had downed five Indian fighter jets. When asked for evidence during a media interview, he responded, “It’s all over social media.” The anchor challenged him, pointing out that as Defence Minister, he should provide tangible proof rather than citing social media posts.

Asif’s recent claims have once again spotlighted the gap between rhetoric and verifiable information, leaving many to question the credibility of such statements made from an official platform.

Music composer Anirudh Ravichander and Sunrisers Hyderabad executive Kavya Maran are set to marry in November. Their wedding reception is scheduled to take place in Chennai on November 21, according to an announcement by Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s office.

The development followed a meeting between Revanth Reddy and Kavya’s parents, Sun Group chairman Kalanithi Maran and Kavery Maran, at the chief minister’s residence in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad.

According to the Telangana Chief Minister’s Office, the couple’s reception is scheduled for November 21, with Kavya’s parents extending an invitation to the chief minister.

Telangana CM’s office announces reception date

The Telangana CMO shared photographs and videos of the meeting on its official social media account on October 16. The announcement stated that Kalanithi Maran and his wife had met Revanth Reddy to invite him to their daughter’s wedding reception.

The post specifically confirmed that the reception of Kavya Maran and Anirudh Ravichander would be held in Chennai on November 21.

The announcement provided an official confirmation of the reception date and venue, while details about the wedding ceremony itself have also been reported separately.

Who are Anirudh Ravichander and Kavya Maran?

Anirudh Ravichander is a prominent music composer in the Indian film industry. He gained widespread recognition with the song “Why This Kolaveri Di” and has since composed music for several major films, including Leo, Indian 2, Vettaiyan, Vidaamuyarchi and Coolie.

Kavya Maran is the daughter of Kalanithi Maran, chairman of the Sun Group. She serves as an executive director at Sun TV Network and is widely recognised in cricket circles for her association with Sunrisers Hyderabad, the IPL franchise.

Wedding rumours and reported ceremony details

Speculation about a possible marriage between Anirudh Ravichander and Kavya Maran had circulated before the latest announcement. Earlier reports in August 2026 discussed the possibility of a November wedding in Greece.

A subsequent report said the wedding was reportedly scheduled to take place in Greece on November 11. However, the couple had not directly confirmed their wedding plans in the cited report.

The Telangana Chief Minister’s Office has confirmed that the reception is scheduled for November 21 in Chennai. The reported wedding ceremony details should therefore be attributed to reports rather than presented as officially confirmed information.

Actor Imran Khan has been asked to leave India by October 28, days after participating in a protest called by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) in Mumbai.

Actor Imran Khan, nephew of Bollywood star Aamir Khan, has been asked to leave India by the Mumbai Police, days after participating in a protest organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) in Mumbai.

According to the notice, the actor has been given until October 28 to leave the country. The development follows his participation in the demonstration, which brought the actor into the spotlight over his involvement in a political protest.

Imran Khan is believed to hold US citizenship and an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card rather than full Indian citizenship, according to the report.

What led to the notice against Imran Khan?

The notice came days after Imran Khan joined a protest called by the CJP in Mumbai. The group, described as a satirical political organisation, had called for the demonstration.

The actor’s participation was followed by action from the authorities, with the Mumbai Police directing him to leave India by the specified deadline.

The notice does not, by itself, mean that the actor has already left the country or has been deported. October 28 is the deadline mentioned for his departure.

Imran Khan and his citizenship status

Imran Khan is known for his work in Hindi films, including Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na and Delhi Belly. He is also the nephew of actor Aamir Khan.

The report states that Imran Khan is believed to be a US citizen and hold an OCI card. OCI status does not confer Indian citizenship, although it provides eligible foreign citizens of Indian origin with specified privileges under Indian law.

The notice directing the actor to leave India follows his participation in the Mumbai protest. The reported development has brought attention to the intersection of immigration rules and the participation of foreign nationals in political demonstrations.

L Murugan

L Murugan has resigned from his position as Union Minister of State and his Rajya Sabha membership, saying he wants to return to grassroots politics and work towards strengthening the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tamil Nadu ahead of the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.

Murugan, who held the portfolios of Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, announced his decision in a post on X on Tuesday, October 13. He described his time in the Union government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership as a great honour and said he wanted to devote himself full-time to the party’s work in Tamil Nadu.

L Murugan says he wants to return to grassroots politics

In his post, Murugan expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the Union Council of Ministers and highlighted his background as the son of daily-wage labourers.

He said he now wished to return to the grassroots, stand alongside BJP workers and dedicate his time to strengthening the party in Tamil Nadu before the next Lok Sabha elections.

Murugan’s stated objective is to help expand the BJP’s presence in the state and contribute to the party’s performance in the 2029 general elections.

Murugan’s resignation comes amid Cabinet reshuffle speculation

His decision comes amid speculation about a possible reshuffle in the Union government. The discussion gained momentum after several Rajya Sabha MPs and ministers, including Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, were not renominated.

However, the report does not establish that the speculation about a Cabinet reshuffle was the reason for Murugan’s resignation. His publicly stated reason was his desire to return to grassroots work and strengthen the BJP in Tamil Nadu.

Murugan thanks PM Modi for the opportunity to serve

Murugan described serving India and Tamil Nadu under Modi’s leadership as one of the greatest privileges of his life. He also referred to his journey from a family of daily-wage labourers to the Union Council of Ministers.

His announcement places his immediate political focus on Tamil Nadu, with the BJP’s preparations for the 2029 Lok Sabha elections forming a central part of his stated plans.
