Padmaavat protests heat up; Rajasthan, MP seeks SC rethink - APN Live

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]On Sunday, thousands of women organized a ‘Chetavni (warning) rally’ in Rajasthan, threatening to commit ‘jauhar’ or mass self-immolation.

Amid continuing trouble for Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial ‘Padmavati’ – re-titled ‘Padmaavat’, protest over the movie – scheduled to be released on January 25 – intensified on Monday. Citing possibilities of law and order trouble due to the heated uproar over the movie release, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan government has pleaded to the Supreme Court on Monday for a review of its go-ahead order. The state governments further petitioned the apex court to be allowed to stop the film.

Furthermore, Karni Sena – the group which led the protest against the historical period drama – has also asked the SC to ban the movie since the makers have allegedly twisted historical facts.

Meanwhile, along with Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Haryana governments too banned the release of the movie, amid violent protests and threats from various Rajput groups. However, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that the state has not stopped the movie, since it has got permission from the top court.

“If someone decides not to screen the film, it will be good but if someone screens the film, they will be provided security.” said Khattar.

With the date for the release of the controversial movie nearing, members of the Karni Sena on Monday blocked roads in Ujjain. The organization of the Rajput community had further staged blockades by burning tyres on the road connecting Ujjain to Nagad, Dewas to Maksi and Agra to Kota.

Earlier on Sunday, thousands of women organized a ‘Chetavni (warning) rally’ in Rajasthan’s Chittorgarh town. With swords in their hands, the women carried out heated protest on the roads of Rajasthan, threatening to commit ‘jauhar’ or mass self-immolation a day before the movie releases.

While the legend states that Queen Padmini decided to jump into fire rather than submit to Sultan Alauddin Khilji of Delhi, Rajasthani women claimed that at least 1900 women in the state have registered for ‘jauhar’ in protest against the release of the movie.

“On Sunday, we contacted around 100 cinema halls in the National Capital Region and they have given in writing that they will not screen the film,” said Karni Sena spokesperson Vijendra Singh.

‘Padmavati’, which was scheduled to be released on December 1, mired in controversy following various Rajput groups alleging that it distorts the history of the region. And as intense protests spread across Rajasthan, the release of the film got delayed, waiting for censor’s clearance till now.

Earlier on December 28, the censor board declared to give a go-ahead to the Sanjay Leela Bansali directorial with a U/A certificate. However, the censor board said it will be issuing the certificate only after the much talked-about period drama makes certain modifications – which include 26 cuts and the change of the title to ‘Padmavat’.

And after days-long heated controversies, the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial – starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh – finally cleared all the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) tests on January 8 and is expected to be released on January 25, during the Republic Day weekend.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Zara Hatke Zara Bachke poster Sara Ali Khan Vicky Kaushal

Laksham Utekar directorial, Zara Hatke Zara Bachke starring Sara Ali Khan and Vicky Kaushal releases today, June 2. The story of the movie revolves around, an Indore-based couple, who wants to live independently of their family and wants to take advantage of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), the government of India’s flagship programme, they seek a divorce.

Zara Hatke Zara Bachke is a typical Bollywood film that is pretty relatable to an Indian-middle-class family. Vicky Kaushal and Sara Ali play the two college sweethearts Kapil and Saumya, who are smitten with one another. After getting married, they stay with Kapil’s family, where they frequently run into family members and find it challenging to spend time romantically or even in seclusion. The son of his mother snoozes between the two. They don’t have any space to themselves in the cramped house, and the maternal aunt of Kapil is your standard family villain who nags Saumya whenever she gets the chance.

The film uses the same humor and a regular storyline that is always there in Bollywood films. Although the second half of the movie drags, the heartwarming end will change the entire plot upon which the movie is made. A love triangle is also shown, which adds to the chaotic trip.
At times, the entertainment factor wears us out and makes us bored.

The second portion of the story likewise appears to drag. However, Vicky Kaushal gives a good performance and pulls off the small-town penny-pinching gentleman role nicely. In contrast, Sara Ali Khan gives an honest performance as both a fiery Punjabi girl and a middle-class bahu. The supporting cast, which includes Harcharan Chawla, Inaamulhaq, Rakesh Bedi as Saumya’s father, Kanupirya Pandit as mama and mami, Neeraj Sood, and Akash Khurana as Kapil’s father, give solid performances. The cinematography by Raghav Ramadoss and the charming tunes by Sachin-Jigar perfectly depict Indore’s small-town character and eccentricities.
