This decision is an implication of the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The aim is to lessen students’ and colleges’ dependence on Class 12 board examinations. Furthermore, a single common test for everyone will level the playing field for students taking exams under India’s 30+ state, private and central boards across the country.  According to authorities from the Ministry of Education, this measure would allow colleges to enrol students who have an aptitude for their chosen degree, eliminating the need for numerous admission examinations.
