Chandraprakash Dwivedi’s film Samrat Prithviraj finally hit the silver screen on June 3. Starring Akshay Kumar, Manushi Chillar, Sonu Sood, and Sanjay Dutt in the lead roles, the film remained in the limelight ever since it was announced. The film received a major backlash from several leaders of the opposition and the audience over its authenticity. The period drama also triggered debates on emphasising Mughals in the school syllabi and not Kings.

In this episode, APN spoke to the veteran Indian actor, Mukesh Khanna who said that the previous government made films like Mughal-E-Azam but they hardly make films like Prithviraj Chauhan.

“There are thousands of Indians who don’t know about Maharana Pratap’s life. People say forts were not won in India but forts’ gates were opened. There has been a gap in the knowledge. They have made Mughal-E-Azam on it but hardly make films like Prithviraj”, Khanna said.

Bollywood made films like Padmavat which too had to go through controversies and this is why India needs a proper picturisation of history, the actor further added.

Applauding Akshay Kumar and Chandraprakash Dwivedi, Khanna said that they are doing a phenomenal job and they must have justified Prithviraj Chauhan.

Commenting on Akshay Kumar’s trolling over his appeal to the education minister to include not Mughals but also Kings in history chapters, Mukesh Khanna said, “History chapters have mentions of Mughals like Babbar, Akbar, and Humayun who have demolished temples and not about Gupta dynasty, Chola dynasty and other dynasties.”

“Biased writing has been done in the history syllabus. They have tagged our freedom fighters as terrorists and somehow the Gandhi family has followed it up,” the veteran actor said.

He continued that the freedom fighters did not get the respect they deserved and at least their families should be honoured.

“India has a myriad of freedom fighters who fought for India’s independence. The credit for our freedom should be given to them and not to ‘Dedi hume azaadi bina khadag bina dhal’. Britishers left ran away from India not because of Satyagrah but because of freedom fighters who shed their blood,” Khanna said.

Samrat Prithviraj was released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu on June 3.

Moviegoers attending a late-night screening of “Pushpa 2” at a multiplex in Nagpur, Maharashtra, found themselves in the midst of a real-life action scene when police stormed the cinema hall to apprehend a man linked to serious criminal activities.

The arrest of Vishal Meshram occurred shortly after midnight on Thursday and left the audience in shock, although police reassured them that they could continue watching the film as they took the suspect into custody.

Vishal Meshram had been evading law enforcement for 10 months and was reportedly traced due to authorities discovering his interest in the newly released film, as stated by an official from the Pachpaoli police station. Meshram’s criminal record includes 27 cases, with charges for two murders and drug trafficking. He has a history of violent behavior, having been known to assault police officers in the past.

Law enforcement agencies had been diligently pursuing him using cyber surveillance techniques and monitoring his movements in a newly acquired sports utility vehicle (SUV). Upon confirming his location on Thursday, police deflated the tires of his vehicle parked outside the cinema to hinder any escape attempts.

As the film reached its climax, Meshram was fully engrossed when police entered the hall, quickly surrounding him and executing the arrest without giving him a chance to resist. He is currently being held in the Nagpur Central Jail and is set to be transferred to a facility in Nashik soon.

“Pushpa 2: The Rule,” starring Allu Arjun, is the sequel to the 2021 Telugu hit “Pushpa: The Rise” and was released on December 5 in various dubbed versions, including Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Bengali, and Malayalam.
