Anupam Kher says he is happy The Kashmir files won the National Award for Best Film on National Integration

Actor Anupam Kher expressed his delight over The Kashmir Files receiving the National Award, particularly because it was honoured as the Best Feature Film on National Integration. Grateful to the jury led by Ketan Mehta, Kher shares his positive expectations about the film winning this prestigious award, given his belief that diligent efforts should be recognized. However, he acknowledges that the aftermath of the film’s release had led him to anticipate challenges in achieving such recognition within this category.

Despite director Vivek Agnihotri’s absence from the country, he conveyed Agnihotri’s sentiments, asserting that the victory within this category was unexpected considering the hurdles encountered. This National Award serves as a response to any skepticism that cast doubts on the film’s intentions, instilling a sense of validation and a dual sense of happiness among everyone involved.

When queried about whether this achievement serves as a retort to critics who labeled the film as a propaganda endeavour, Kher acknowledges that there are moments when he refrains from responding to those with differing opinions. Instead, he focuses on the present celebration and the joy that comes with it.

However, an unfulfilled desire lingers within him – to receive an award for his exceptional performance in the movie. In extending congratulations to all the other winners, Kher proceeds to emphasize a significant perspective. He underscores that in instances where one doesn’t secure an award, displaying grace is paramount. This approach isn’t about belittling the accomplishments of the victor; rather, it’s about maintaining a sense of dignity. Whether it’s individuals like Allu Arjun (who earned the Best Actor award for Pushpa) or Pankaj Tripathi (awarded as Best Supporting Actor for Mimi), Kher acknowledges their substantial talent and commends them for deserving the accolades they receive.

Maintaining an objective stance when evaluating performances, Kher articulates that The Kashmir Files showcased one of his most impressive acting displays. He recognizes that awards are distributed across several categories and underscores the significance of this recognition. In essence, Kher expresses that it would have been gratifying to have his performance acknowledged within these categories.
