Pratap Pothen, the Malayalam actor and director, was found dead at his flat in Chennai this morning. He died at the age of 69. The actor made his debut with the Malayalam film Kokkarakko and has worked in over 100 films till now. He was last seen in the Mammooty starrer CBI5: The Brain, which was released earlier this year.

The actor built a name for himself in the industry as a scriptwriter, director, and producer and was a prominent figure in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi movies from the 1980s. He was also a recipient of the National Award, which he won in 1985 for directing Meendum Oru Kaathal Kathai.

Personal Life

  • Pratap Pothen was born on August 13, 1951, in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
  • During his graduation from Madras Christian College, he started acting in plays as an interest but later he worked in a Mumbai ad agency as a copywriter and also worked at Sistas Ad Agency and Hindustan Thomson.
  • Pratap married actor Raadhika in 1985, however, they got separated a year later.
  • He then remarried Senior Corporate Professional Amala Sathyanath in 1990 but they also got separated after 22 years in 2012. The couple has a daughter Keya who was born in 1991.

Professional Life

  • Pratap’s first film Meendum Oru Kaathal Kathai (1985) won him a national award. In an era when loud acting and innovations were not in vogue, Prathap teamed up with Kamal Haasan in Vettri Vizhaa (1989). It was the first time that a steady cam was used in a Tamil film.
  • Pratap directed three films in Malayalam – Rithubhedam (1987), Daisy (1988), and Oru Yathramozhi (1997). He also directed a Telugu film Chaitanya (1991).
  • In Tamil, he made hits like Jeeva (1988), Vettri Vizhaa (1989), Seevalaperi Pandi (1994) and Lucky Man (1995).
  • He also won a Filmfare Award for Thakara (1979) and Chamaram (1980).

Arjun Kapoor slams news website for spreading rumours about Malaika Arora’s pregnancy

The actor refuted the rumours and slammed the news website for speaking fake news and invading their personal life.

The internet went bananas on Wednesday over Malaika Arora and Arun Kapoor expecting a child together. The speculations were shared by a leading entertainment portal that claimed the news.

However, Arjun Kapoor has now refuted the rumours and slammed the news website for speaking fake news and invading their personal life. Bashing the website and the journalist who wrote the article, the actor said this was the lowest that they could have gone and they have done it by being casual, insensitive, and absolutely unethical in carrying garbage news.

He further said the journalist Nikita Dalvi has been writing such articles regularly and getting away with it as they tend to ignore these fake gossip articles while they spread across media and become the truth.

Arjun continued and warned the website and the journalist not to play with his personal life.

Arjun Kapoor and Malaika Arora have been together for a while now. Ever since they started dating, there have been several fake reports of them getting engaged or married or getting pregnant. However, the couple never paid heed to the speculations and chose to keep their personal lives behind the curtains.

Meanwhile, Malaika Arora recently announced her reality show Move In With Malaika which will premiere on Disney+Hotstar from December 5. The actor released the fun trailer of the show on Tuesday.

The show promises the unfiltered Malaika.

Apart from this, Malaika is also grabbing eyeballs with her latest song Aap Jaisa Koi co-starring Ayushmann Khurrana for his film An Action Hero.

Vijay Deverakonda appears before ED in Liger’s money laundering case

Liger hit the silver screen on August 25 in both Hindi and Telugu language.

Telugu superstar Vijay Deverakonda on Wednesday had to appear before the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the funding of his film Liger which was released in August this year.

Reports said the ED is probing the alleged violation of the Foreign Exchange Management Act over the remuneration and payments that were made to the cast of the film including the American boxer Mike Tyson.

Earlier, the central agency had summoned Liger’s director Puri Jagannadh and Charmme Kaur. Reports said they were questioned over the source of investments made for Liger.

Liger hit the silver screen on August 25 in both Hindi and Telugu language. The film starred Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday in the lead roles while Mike Tyson played an important role.

If reports are to be believed the film was shot with a budget of Rs 90 crore, however, it failed at the box office and didn’t even collect 30% of its budget.

Morever, Liger was also trolled for its poorly written script and Ananya Panday’s acting. A section of cinema lovers was disappointed as the film marked the Bollywood debut of Vijay Deverakonda and called it his wasted opportunity.

Bankrolled by Puri Jagannadh, Charmme Kaur, and Karan Johar, Liger also starred Ramya Krishnan, Ali, Ronit Roy, and Makrand Deshpande in titular roles.

After Liger failed at the box office, there were reports of Deverakonda returning his fees to the producer.

Meanwhile, Vijay Deverakonda is all set to star opposite Prabhas in Salaar, reports claimed. If reports are to be believed, the actor will play the role of Prabhas’ younger brother in Prashant Neel’s directorial. The film will star Shruti Haasan as the female lead and is expected to hit the theatres on September 28, 2023.

However, makers are yet to make any official announcement regarding Vijay Deverakonda joining the cast.

Vivek Agnihotri’s directorial The Kashmir Files has been in controversy ever since it hit the silver screen. The film was recently slammed by Israel’s filmmaker Nadav Lapid at the closing ceremony of the 53rd International Film Festival of India held in Goa.

In his speech, Lapid called The Kashmir Files a vulgar, propaganda film and the jury was disturbed and shocked by its screening at IFFI. He further continued and said the film was inappropriate for an artistic competitive section of such a prestigious film festival.

Nadav Lapid’s statements on The Kashmir Files created a stir on social media and Israel’s ambassador to India Naor Gilon called his statements insensitive and presumptuous. Several noted personalities and the makers of The Kashmir Files also reacted to Lapid’s statement and condemn it.

However, this is not the first time that a film which became the highest-grossing film this year and earned more than Rs 300 crore worldwide has been criticised and tagged as a propaganda film.

Featuring Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Thackeray was heavily trolled as it was said to be made by Shiv Sena and glorify their political party.

Sanju

The 2018 Rajkumar Hirani film became a blockbuster hit. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Dia Mirza, and Anushka Sharma, the film was accused of whitewashing Sanjay Dutt’s image.
