Pratap Pothen, the Malayalam actor and director, was found dead at his flat in Chennai this morning. He died at the age of 69. The actor made his debut with the Malayalam film Kokkarakko and has worked in over 100 films till now. He was last seen in the Mammooty starrer CBI5: The Brain, which was released earlier this year.

The actor built a name for himself in the industry as a scriptwriter, director, and producer and was a prominent figure in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi movies from the 1980s. He was also a recipient of the National Award, which he won in 1985 for directing Meendum Oru Kaathal Kathai.

Personal Life

  • Pratap Pothen was born on August 13, 1951, in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
  • During his graduation from Madras Christian College, he started acting in plays as an interest but later he worked in a Mumbai ad agency as a copywriter and also worked at Sistas Ad Agency and Hindustan Thomson.
  • Pratap married actor Raadhika in 1985, however, they got separated a year later.
  • He then remarried Senior Corporate Professional Amala Sathyanath in 1990 but they also got separated after 22 years in 2012. The couple has a daughter Keya who was born in 1991.

Professional Life

  • Pratap’s first film Meendum Oru Kaathal Kathai (1985) won him a national award. In an era when loud acting and innovations were not in vogue, Prathap teamed up with Kamal Haasan in Vettri Vizhaa (1989). It was the first time that a steady cam was used in a Tamil film.
  • Pratap directed three films in Malayalam – Rithubhedam (1987), Daisy (1988), and Oru Yathramozhi (1997). He also directed a Telugu film Chaitanya (1991).
  • In Tamil, he made hits like Jeeva (1988), Vettri Vizhaa (1989), Seevalaperi Pandi (1994) and Lucky Man (1995).
  • He also won a Filmfare Award for Thakara (1979) and Chamaram (1980).

Manisha Koirala reveals reason for rejecting Dil To Pagal Hai, says regrets that decision

Manisha Koirala, who is waiting for the release of Heeramandi, talked about turning down Yash Chopra’s Dil Toh Pagal Hai alongside Madhuri Dixit. She claimed that because Madhuri Dixit was the lead actor in the film, she felt insecure.

The actor talked about her long career as she prepared for a big comeback with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi. The series is at the last leg for a big release, having endured several delays. The Series is scheduled to release on Netflix on May 1.

A little-known fact is that Manisha Koirala was the one who was offered Dil Toh Pagal Hai by Yash Chopra before Karisma Kapoor. She did, however, decline the offer. It was, however, that event that further made her to reconsider her career choices.

Manisha said, she regrets not doing Yash Chopra’s film, it’s one of her career’s regrets. When Madhuri ji [Dixit] was paired opposite her, she became insecure. She withdrew from the project.

Yash Ji, when he was alive,portrayed women so beautifully that every actor of her time, wanted to work with him, Manisha continued. She went to Yash Ji’s office and said, Sir, she wanted to be his solo heroine. That was her dream. She was being caste opposite Madhuri Dixit by him. Manisha believes she missed out due to her superior judgment.

Manisha accepted director Raj Santoshi’s 2000 offer Lajja, opposite Madhu Dixit, on the spot In Heeramandi, Manisha will star alongside actresses Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Richa Chaddha, Sonakshi Sinha, and Sharmin Segal. because she didn’t want to make the same mistake again. She said, she thought security comes from having a strong maker and being comfortable in your own skin. Her foolish insecurities made her realize that she didn’t want to make the same mistake twice. She is quite happy that she did that film. She adore Lajja so much, Manisha added.

In Heeramandi, Manisha will star alongside actresses Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Richa Chaddha, Sonakshi Sinha, and Sharmin Segal.

During a recent music concert in Dhaka, Bangladesh, the popular Pakistani singer Atif Aslam was approached by a female fan who suddenly jumped on the stage and hugged him.  Many people present at the concert viewed the fan’s actions as outrageous, but Atif Aslam handled the situation with grace as he remained calm and did not panic.

Atif Aslam’s reaction towards his female fan was praised by a number of individuals who were attending the concert and were impressed by his composed behaviour in this chaotic moment. The video of the incident is being widely shared on social media platforms and has gone viral. The video has got 119500 views, 252 retweets and 2400 likes till now which are only increasing.

An X user Nznn Ahmed shared the viral video and wrote A crazy Bangladeshi fan gets emotional at Atif Aslam’s last night show in Dhaka. In the video, a female fan is seen embracing Atif with a tight hug, and despite his attempts to let go, she holds on to him.

In the video the woman can be seen speaking to Atif Aslam, who listens to her intently and is seen responding to her with a calm smile on his face. The bodyguards present on the stage try to remove her but are unable to do so. The video shows the woman’s persistence and desire to speak to the star singer in spite of being denied permission by the security guards.

Large number of social media users and Atif Aslam fans responded to the viral video. One X user Ahad was of the opinion that the woman should be fined for her behaviour.

X user Nznn Ahmed responded to Ahad and said that he should not worry at all as looking at the video it is seems that the female fan is a teenager and could not control here emotions on seeing her favourite rock star on stage.

President Droupadi Murmu presented veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty and singer Usha Uthup with the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award. At Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, the prestigious award was given in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and other dignitaries.

The 73-year-old Mithun has had a successful career in Indian cinema, having starred in many blockbuster movies including Mrigayaa, his debut, for which he won the National Film Award for Best Actor, as well as timeless films like Disco Dancer, Agneepath, Ghar Ek Mandir, and more.

However, Uthup is praised for her unique voice, which marked her from her contemporaries and made her a jazz trailblazer in Indian cinema in the 1970s. Among her popular songs are Ramba Ho, One Two Cha Cha, Shaan Se, and a few others.

Mithun Chakraborty expressed his happiness upon being awarded the honour in the arts, the veteran actor said, he is very happy. He said, in his entire life, he has never asked anyone for anything. He was in silence for a moment when he received the phone informing him that he was receiving Padma Bhushan since he had not anticipated it.

Usha Uthup said, she was happy. The legendary singer said she is bursting with happiness. Uthup said, she had tears in her eyes. This is the greatest moment of her life, in her opinion, to be acknowledged and valued by both your government and the county, she said. What more could a person ask for?, Usha Uthup added.

In addition to the two previously mentioned artists, Padma Bhushan was also given to Pyarelal Sharma, a member of the legendary music combo Laxmikant-Pyarelal.

On the eve of Republic Day’s 75th anniversary, the Padma Awards were revealed. The award honours outstanding achievements in a range of disciplines.
