Went into depression during shoot of 3 Idiots, reveals Ali Fazal
Actor Ali Fazal, who began his acting career with Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots, revealed that he slipped onto depression during the shoot. The actor has played the role of an engineering student named Joy, who commits suicide when the college dean refuses to extend the project submission deadline.
Actor Ali Fazal has revealed that he went into depression when he was shooting for Rajkumar Hirani’s film 3 Idiots.
In the film, Fazal played the role of an engineering student who dies by suicide after the college dean refuses to extend the deadline for the project submission.
In an interview with PeepingMoon, he said, I slipped into depression when I started with 3 Idiots. I played a small role in it. Do you know what happened? Suddenly they were doing some news pieces, not to sound morbid or anything but at that time, some college students had harmed themselves, and then I got a call from some news channel saying, Sir, you’ve played this role and this is exactly what has happened. How do you feel about it?’ and I was crushed at that point. I was naive. I was in my second year of college, he said.
Fazal said the incident had a profound impact on his mental health. He continued, I went into depression and I told Raju sir (director Rajkumar Hirani) and all these people and they said, ‘please don’t do this. Tell them to talk to the producer and don’t feel like this.
Further, he added that he used to associate himself with the character. Obviously, they were very sweet about it and I used to suddenly start associating that I couldn’t explain much in a small role. I wish and hope I get a big role so that then I can take them through the whole journey and tell you no, this is not what I meant to do. I didn’t mean to hurt anybody. Of course, it was coming from a very naive place, he said.
The superhit film, 3 Idiots stars Aamir Khan, R Madhavan, and Sharman Joshi in pivotal roles. Based on the life of engineering students, the film went to become a blockbuster at the box office, and also critically acclaimed.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Fazal will next be seen in Netflix’s anthology Ray’s Forget Me Not. Besides it, he is busy shooting for the third installment of the Fukrey franchise. He will also be seen in Happy Now Bhaag Jayegi and Death.

According to reports, the actor slipped while he was working in the kitchen and got injured. He was taken to hospital where he lost his life.
The 67-year-old actor is survived by his wife Suzanne Bernert, also an actor. The incident took place in Hyderabad, Telangana where he was shooting for an upcoming project.
Actor Manoj Bajpayee had extended his condolence on the death of veteran actor Akhil Mishra. He said the incident was unbelievably shocking.
Akhil was married to a German actor Suzanne Bernert in February 2009. Later in 2011, they got married as per the traditional rituals.
Akhil has worked in several movies like Gandhi, My Father, Don, Shikhar, Kamla Ki Maut, and Well Done Abba. He got his popularity as a librarian Dubey in 3 Idiots movie, starring Amir Khan, R Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Kareena Kapoor, Boman Irani, and Omi Vaidya among others.
The veteran actor was also seen in famous TV shows like CID, Udaan, Hatim and Uttaran among others.
Suzanne Bernert has also worked in several Television shows such as Porus, Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai, Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Savdhaan India, Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat.
Earlier, Akhil Mishra and his wife Suzanne worked together in the movie Kram. They have worked in TV Shows together like Dewaana, a Doordarshan serial.
They worked in a short film named Manju Ki Juliet as well in 2019.
His last rites were held on September 21 at 3:30 pm at Indralok near Golden Nest. Suzanne had made all the arrangements and preparations for the cremation. She said that her heart was broken and her second half had gone forever.
