Janata Dal (United) head Nitish Kumar will take oath as Chief Minister of Bihar for the ninth time along with two deputy chief ministers Vijay Sinha and Samrat Choudhary from Bharatiya Janta Party at 5 pm today.

Today, CM Nitish Kumar submitted his resignation to Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at Raj Bhavan in Patna. While speaking to the media, Nitish Kumar said his party has decided to sever ties with the Mahagathbandhan comprising the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress.

The Governor Arlekar accepted the resignation of Nitish Kumar and deputed him as the Acting Chief Minister.

According to reports, BJP president JP Nadda will arrive in Bihar today. He will be received by the Union Minister Nityanand Rai and former state party president Sanjay Jaiswal.

Speaking on Bihar CM’s resignation,  AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said that Nitish Kumar, Tesjaswi Yadav, and PM Modi should apologise to the people of Bihar. All three have betrayed the people of Bihar, especially Nitish Kumar, he added.  The term political opportunism would be an understatement, Nitish Kumar has broken all records, he charged.

The AIMIM chief questioned RJD’s Tejaswi Yadav about how does it feels now, further, Owaisi reminded that Yadav took away four of his MLAs. Does he feel the same pain now, Owaisi asked.

He has been played the same way he played us. Nitish Kumar will just be the face of RSS and Narendra Modi’s governance in Bihar, he added. Tejaswi Yadav and his family have sidelined the people of Bihar and their focus is to only have someone from among them to be the CM, AIMIM chief further added.

Meanwhile, speaking to the media, the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president Chirag Paswan said he will attend the oath ceremony today as an NDA ally. It is a matter of joy that NDA is coming to power in Bihar, adding that, we too have a vision of ‘Bihar First, Bihari First’.

I have said earlier too that I have had policy-based differences with Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and I still have those differences. If the work continues as per his policies, the differences will probably continue in the time to come. I have always believed that his policies have not facilitated development in Bihar, Chirag Paswan further added.

The BJP is preparing a major organisational and electoral strategy in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the 2027 Assembly election, with the party considering dropping more than 100 sitting MLAs from its candidate list.

The proposed changes are part of a broader effort to address internal differences within the party, strengthen its organisation and reconnect with voters across the state.

BJP’s plan for Uttar Pradesh

The party’s strategy involves reviewing the performance and prospects of its sitting legislators before deciding on candidates for the next Assembly election. More than 100 MLAs could potentially be denied tickets as part of the exercise.

The focus is also on resolving internal rifts and improving coordination within the organisation. The BJP is looking to address issues that emerged during the 2024 Lok Sabha election and strengthen its connect with voters.

The party’s review comes as it prepares for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election, where it will seek to strengthen its position across the state.

Focus on internal differences and voters

Along with changes to its pool of candidates, the BJP is working on repairing differences within the organisation.

The party’s strategy places emphasis on reconnecting with voters and understanding issues at the ground level. Leaders and workers are expected to focus on strengthening the party’s presence among voters as preparations for the Assembly election continue.

The approach reflects the BJP’s effort to draw lessons from its performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha election and make organisational changes ahead of the next major electoral contest in Uttar Pradesh.

Candidate changes under consideration

The possibility of dropping over 100 sitting MLAs would represent a significant change in the BJP’s candidate strategy in the state. However, the final decision on individual tickets will depend on the party’s assessment and the selection process.

The BJP is therefore combining a review of its sitting legislators with efforts to resolve internal differences and rebuild its connection with voters as it prepares for the 2027 polls.
