Due to a spike in Covid-19 cases across the country, several states have made the use of face masks in public places mandatory and have asked people to follow precautionary Covid guidelines.
On Saturday, India registered 6,155 new Covid cases taking the total tally of infections to 4,47,51,259. There are 31,194 active cases in the country and 11 new deaths were reported on Saturday taking the death toll to 5,30,954, the health ministry data said.
Amid the surge in Covid cases, the Haryana government issued a bulletin and mandated the wearing of masks in public places. The statement said there has been a significant upsurge in the number of Covid cases with an increased positivity rate of Covid infection in the State of Haryana over the past few weeks.
It further said wearing face masks to the general public at all public places, where there is a gathering of more than 100 people, government offices, malls, etc is mandatory.
Gurugram Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav issued show cause notices to 17 hospitals that did not send representatives to a meeting of the District Task Force amid a surge in the coronavirus cases.
Kerala Health Minister Veena George on Saturday directed making masks mandatory for pregnant women, the elderly, and those with lifestyle diseases. The decision was taken in a high-level meeting to review the Covid situation and deaths related to the virus in people above 60 years and those with lifestyle diseases like diabetes.
The Puducherry government also issued an advisory on Friday and made masks mandatory in public places. In a Covid review meeting, Puducherry Chief Minister Natesan Krishnaswamy Rangasamy said Covid cases in the Union Territory are under control.
Meanwhile, New Delhi saw a surge in Covid cases and also a rise in H3N2 influenza cases. The health department has instructed the hospitals, polyclinics, and dispensaries to increase the testing in the capital.
