Delhi Metro: Normal services resume at yellow line stations

Delhi and adjoining areas witnessed a surprise rainfall and hailstorm along with harsh winds on late Friday evening. The sudden change in weather has disrupted the Delhi Metro service. Owing to the heavy rainfall, the metro route on the Yellow line experienced long halts at every station. However, normal services have resumed after almost 2 hours. DMRC informed people via tweet.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Saturday morning tweeted about the delay in yellow line service especially from Kashmere Gate to Patel Chowk.

Delay in the service led to the build-up of heavy rush and long queues in the metros and at metro stations. One of the users shared the current situation of the metro. Sharing the concern of delaying the service without prior confirmation, the user wrote that there is no place to stand despite halting the metro for 30 minutes at one station.

A video has also gone viral showing many people stuck in the metro between Vishwavidyalaya and Kashmiri gate for the last one hour.

One of the travellers tweeted DMRC that it’s been over 1 hour 25 mins and they are stuck in the yellow line metro. She urges Delhi metro to at least dropped them at their nearest metro station, so they can take other transport to reach out to their respective destinations.

DMRC states that the delay in the metro stations is due to technical reasons. The rainwater is filled up at Chandni Chowk and Chawri Bazar metro and the metro is halted at every station starting from Samypur Badli till Kashmere Gate.

In addition to this, DMRC on Friday informed the citizens that some sections of the Yellow Line will not be available in the initial few hours on Sunday due to maintenance work at Rajiv Chowk station.

7 killed after man posing as UK cardiologist John Camm performs surgeries in Madhya Pradesh

The complainant identified this individual as Narendra Vikramaditya Yadav, who allegedly misrepresented himself by using the name of eminent UK cardiologist Professor John Camm to mislead patients.

In a disturbing incident, seven individuals have tragically lost their lives after receiving treatment from a fraudulent cardiologist at a missionary hospital located in the Damoh district, Madhya Pradesh.

In response to this dire situation, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has initiated an inquiry aimed at uncovering the circumstances surrounding this medical malpractice. A team of NHRC officials, led by member Priyank Kanoongo, is scheduled to visit Damoh from April 7 to 9 to investigate the incident and determine accountability for those involved.

The matter came to light when a local resident lodged a complaint with the NHRC, claiming that an individual identifying himself as ‘Dr N John Camm’—who purported to have overseas qualifications—was practicing at the hospital. The complainant identified this individual as Narendra Vikramaditya Yadav, who allegedly misrepresented himself by using the name of eminent UK cardiologist Professor John Camm to mislead patients.

According to the complaint, patients suffered fatal consequences due to the improper treatment administered by Yadav. Kanoongo posted on X last Friday, noting that seven individuals had died at the missionary hospital in Damoh due to care provided by this impersonating doctor.

The complaint also revealed that the hospital, which participates in the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Yojana, was involved in the misuse of government resources. Consequently, the NHRC has prioritized this investigation.

Kanoongo stated, “The NHRC team will be stationed in Damoh from April 7 to 9 to conduct their investigation. Any victims or individuals with information regarding the case are encouraged to meet with the investigation team in Damoh.”

The allegation was made by Deepak Tiwari, a resident of Jabalpur Naka, who reported that between January and February this year, numerous patients died as a result of treatment from an unqualified and unauthorized doctor in the cardiology department at the Mission Hospital in Damoh.

It was indicated that Yadav had been practicing under the name ‘Dr N John Camm’ for approximately one and a half months before the complaints surfaced. Damoh’s collector, Sudhir Kochar, has confirmed that a complaint has been lodged and is currently under review, stating that further actions will depend on the findings of the investigation.

PCB khushdil Shah fight with afghani fans

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has strongly reacted after a tense on-field moment involving Khushdil Shah during the third ODI against New Zealand at Mount Maunganui. The incident occurred after a group of Afghan-origin spectators allegedly hurled inappropriate and anti-Pakistan remarks, triggering a furious reaction from the cricketer.

Images and videos circulated online showed Khushdil Shah being restrained by security after charging toward a section of the crowd. The PCB later confirmed that Shah had intervened after hearing provocative chants and abusive language in Pashto.

“When anti-Pakistan slogans emerged, cricketer Khushdil Shah stepped in and urged the spectators to refrain. In response, the Afghan spectators escalated the situation,” the PCB said in an official statement.

Following the Pakistan team’s complaint, two Afghan-origin spectators were ejected from the ground.

Pakistan’s 43-run defeat in the third ODI not only resulted in a 0-3 series whitewash, but also marked the latest chapter in a string of spectator clashes involving Afghan fans. Past Pakistan vs Afghanistan encounters have often witnessed heated exchanges in the stands.

The PCB’s statement indirectly highlighted such precedents, including a controversial 2023 World Cup post-match comment by Afghan player Ibrahim Zadran, who used the stage to criticize Pakistan over deportation issues.

Meanwhile, the PCB also addressed concerns regarding Imam-ul-Haq, who retired hurt in the third over after being hit on the face by an accidental throw from a New Zealand fielder. A CT scan at Tauranga Hospital confirmed a mild concussion, but the opener was later declared fit to travel home with the squad.

Pamban Bridge: PM Modi inaugurates India’s first vertical lift sea bridge in Tamil Nadu

During the ceremony, PM Modi also launched a new Coast Guard ship, which navigated beneath the bridge, and initiated the Rameswaram-Tambaram (Chennai) train service.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami by inaugurating the New Pamban Bridge in Tamil Nadu, heralding it as India’s first vertical-lift sea bridge. The event showcased a blend of cultural celebration and infrastructural milestones.

During the ceremony, PM Modi also launched a new Coast Guard ship, which navigated beneath the bridge, and initiated the Rameswaram-Tambaram (Chennai) train service. The Ministry of Railways highlighted that this 2.07-kilometer marvel, stretching across the Palk Strait in Tamil Nadu’s Ramanathapuram district, symbolizes India’s advanced engineering capabilities and forward-thinking infrastructure projects.

Linking Rameswaram Island to Mandapam on the mainland, the bridge, constructed by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL)—a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Railways—at a cost exceeding Rs 700 crore, features a 72.5-metre navigational section that can lift vertically up to 17 metres, facilitating safe passage for ships. Designed to accommodate two railway tracks, it currently operates on a single line, supporting train speeds of up to 80 kmph and built to manage increased traffic and heavier loads.

The bridge is engineered for durability, boasting a 100-year lifespan, thanks to innovative techniques that minimize maintenance needs. It incorporates stainless steel reinforcements, fully welded joints, high-grade protective paint, and a polysiloxane coating to combat the corrosive marine environment.

Drawing comparisons to iconic structures like the Golden Gate Bridge in the USA, Tower Bridge in the UK, and the Oresund Bridge between Denmark and Sweden, the New Pamban Bridge stands out for its cutting-edge design and technology. It replaces the old Pamban Bridge, constructed in 1914 by British engineers with a manually operated Scherzer’s span, which was decommissioned from rail use due to safety issues.

Following his three-day visit to Sri Lanka, PM Modi, upon arriving in Tamil Nadu, planned to offer prayers at the Ramanathaswamy temple in Rameswaram and lay the foundation for several rail and road projects valued over Rs 8,300 crore in the state.

En route from Sri Lanka, PM Modi captured an aerial view of the Ram Setu, also known as Adams Bridge, and shared it online. “On the way back from Sri Lanka a short while ago, was blessed to have a Darshan of the Ram Setu. And, as a divine coincidence, it happened at the same time as the Surya Tilak was taking place in Ayodhya. Blessed to have the Darshan of both. Prabhu Shri Ram is a uniting force for all of us. May His blessings always remain upon us,” he posted on X.

Ram Setu, a series of shoals extending 48 km between Rameswaram Island and Mannar Island in Sri Lanka, separates the Gulf of Mannar from the Palk Strait, serving as a natural divider between these two bodies of water connected to the Indian Ocean and Bay of Bengal, respectively.
