BJP leader Kapil Mishra who has been accused of leading a pro-Citizenship (Amendment) Act rally, that saw the horrific violence between pro and anti-CAA protesters in northeast Delhi, lashed out at those who have been demanding his arrest for his inflammatory statements. Twenty people have died and over 180 injured since Sunday.

“Those who did not consider Burhan Wani and Afzal Guru as terrorists are calling Kapil Mishra a terrorist. Those who go to court to get Yakub Memon, Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam released are demanding the arrest of Kapil Mishra. Jai Shri Ram,” the former MLA tweeted in Hindi.

On Sunday, BJP leader Kapil Mishra had organised a rally in support of CAA near Maujpur-Babarpur metro station in the northeast district. Later he also addressed the people who gathered in support of CAA, “threating action” against anti-CAA protesters if the Jaffrabad road was not opened. He, however, left the place after addressing the gathering. Later the crowd allegedly attacked the anti-CAA protesters, resulting in stones pelting from both ends.

“If it doesn’t happen then don’t come to us to make us understand. We will not listen to you. We will be peaceful till US President Donald Trump is here. After that, we won’t listen to even you if the roads are not cleared,” Mishra said.

“If it doesn’t happen then don’t come to us to make us understand. We will not listen to you. We will be peaceful till US President Donald Trump is here. After that, we won’t listen to even you if the roads are not cleared,” Mishra said.

Mishra had asked people on Twitter to gather at Maujpur at 3 pm on Sunday “to give an answer to Jaffrabad”.

Right after Mishra’s tweet, several people were injured in clashes in Maujpur. Protesters torched at houses, a police bus and a fire engine in Jaffrabad and Maujpur.

The BJP leader has been criticised by opposition leaders and a large secion of social media users over his comments.

Lok Sabha MP and BJP leader Gautam Gambhir called for severe action against his party leader, Kapil Mishra, for making provocative statements.

“No matter who the person is, whether he is Kapil Mishra or anyone else, belonging to any party, if he has given any provoking speech then strict action should be taken against him,” Gautam Gambhir was quoted saying by ANI.

Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari also urged all party leaders to work towards establishing peace in the national capital and not to do anything that causes “confusion” and sends a “wrong message” to people.

This is not the first instance that Mishra has been accused of making inflammatory remarks. Earlier this month, Mishra had controversially compared the February 8 Delhi Assembly polls to an “India vs Pakistan” contest.

Two complaints have been filed against Kapil Sharma, one complaint has been filed by AAP corporator Reshma Nadeem and second by Haseeb ul Hasan. However, as of now no action has been taken against Mishra.

The Delhi Rouse Avenue Court on Thursday has extended the Enforcement Directorate (ED) remand of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal till April 1. The Chief Minister will remain in custody till Monday, after which he will be presented in front of the court bench for further proceedings in the case.

The court has passed its order for the extension of the remand in the money laundering case related to the Delhi excise policy, being investigated by the ED for the last two years. Arvind Kejriwal is the fourth Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader to be arrested in this case. Previously, Satyendar Jain, Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh were arrested in the same case.

During the hearing today, the ED argued that Arvind Kejriwal needs to be brought face to face with some of the accused in the excise policy case. The ED further said that the data in one of the mobile phones, belonging to Arvind Kejriwal’s wife Sunita, was extracted and is being analyzed.

Nonetheless, data from the other 4 digital devices seized during search at Arvind Kejriwal’s premises on March 21 are yet to be extracted as the arrestee has sought time to provide password/login credentials after consulting with his lawyers.

In its fresh remand plea, the investigation agency said that during Arvind Kejriwal’s custodial interrogation, his statements were recorded on five days and that he was giving evasive replies. It further said the statements of three other persons have also been recorded during the remand.

CM Kejriwal made a submission in front of the court on Thursday, where he said that in the 31,000 page document prepared by the ED, there is no concrete proof or allegations against him on the basis of which he has been arrested.

Meanwhile, Arvind Kejriwal’s wife Sunita Kejriwal said on March 28 that the AAP national convener is not keeping well and is being harassed a lot while in ED custody over the past week. She asserted that the Chief Minister is being harassed a lot and his sugar levels are fluctuating.

CM Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 and was sent to 7-days of custody. His arrest has triggered protests in the national capital and the nearby northern state of Punjab, which is also governed by AAP, over the last few days.
