Five-judge Constitution Bench to hear Aadhaar challenge on privacy issue

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The hearing will be held on July 18 and 19, Court said
In the much awaited order on Aadhaar Card case, the Supreme Court on Wednesday said that its five judge Constitution bench will hear a batch of petitions challenging the constitutionality of the Aadhaar scheme. The hearing will be held on July 18 and 19.
The petitioners have challenged the scheme on the grounds that the biometric details taken from individuals violated their right to privacy.
According to a report, Attorney General KK Venugopal and senior advocate Shyam appearing for petitioners mentioned before a bench comprised of Chief Justice of India JS Khehar and Justice DY Chandrachud for the early setting up of a Constitution Bench to hear the petitions.
The move by the court came after Divan submitted that last week a three-judge Bench headed by Justice J Chelameswar had asked both the petitioners and the government to approach the CJI for setting up of a Constitution Bench.
Two weeks back, the apex court had also refused to pass any order or interim order on the government’s decision of making Aadhar card compulsory. However, it ruled that people who currently do not have an Aadhar card will not be deprived of any government schemes or benefits.
Recently, three children with intellectual and developmental disabilities were reunited with their parents through an Aadhar enrollment drive held in an orphanage on Bengaluru’s Hosur road. It was found that Monu, Omprakash and Neelakanta had already been registered with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) after their biometric data was not getting recorded due to the duplication of the finger prints. The data saved in the UIDAI helped trace their parents.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

According to the reports, Westberg behaved unruly with the 24-year-old air hostess when she informed him that there was no seafood onboard. She then served him chicken meals and asked for his ATM card to make a payment through the POS machine.
