In Karnataka, two couples have chosen to name their newborns Vikram and Pragyan in celebration of the successful Chandrayaan-3 mission. According to reports, a couple from Yadgir district specifically named their children after the lander and rover that soft landed on the moon on August 23.
The local report suggests babies were born much before Chandrayaan-3’s mission, their parents decided to commemorate the historic success by renaming them after the names of Chandrayaan-3’s lander and rover.
Vikram, the baby boy of Balappa and Nagamma, was born on July 28. On August 14, Pragyan, the baby of Ningappa and Shivamma, was born. The naming ceremony for both children was held on August 24, the day after ISRO’s lunar mission was successful.
Recently, in Odisha’s Kendrapara district, some parents decided to name their newborns ‘Chandrayaan’ in honour of the achievement. Specifically, four babies (three boys and one girl) who were born in the Kendrapara district hospital on Wednesday evening received this name.
Pravat Mallick, the father of one of the four babies born recently, expressed his joy at the coincidental timing of their child’s birth and the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon. The child will be named after the lunar mission in celebration of this special moment.
The local tradition is to name a baby on the 21st day of the birth after a puja.
On the 21st day after the birth, it is customary to perform a puja in Mallick’s family. His wife, Ranu, who hails from Aripada village, intends to name their newborn son after the lunar mission, Chandrayaan. She is also considering the names “Chandra” or “Luna” as they reflect the essence of the mission. But she finds “Chandrayaan” to be a more stylish name and is leaning towards it.
On August 23, India made history as ISRO’s Chandrayaan-3 successfully landed on the south pole of the moon, making India the first country to achieve this feat. This accomplishment places India as the fourth country to successfully land on the moon.
