The new variant of coronavirus ‘Omicron’ has taken the world by storm and now Omicron has also made its presence in India too. The Health Ministry on December 2 confirmed two cases of Omicron in India.
The Health Ministry on December 4 confirmed 8603 new cases of Covid and 415 deaths in the last 24 hours, while 8190 recovered from the infection. Now the total active cases in India stands at 99,974.
The new variant omicron was first confirmed in South Africa on November 12 and now in a span of 22 days the virus has spread into 38 countries, including India, the UK, France, Israel, and many other countries.
As per the health officials, the new variant Omicron is more transmissible than its earlier variants and it can infect even fully vaccinated people. Because the two cases of Omicron which were found in Karnataka were fully vaccinated and aged 45+ years.
The two latest countries to confirm the Omicron variant, are the United States and Australia. The two cases detected in the US were of those people who have no recent international travel history- showing that Omicron is already circulating inside the country.
The Health Ministry urged everyone above 18-years old to get vaccinated as soon as possible and also said that scientists are working for the booster for fully vaccinated people and a vaccine for children.
The Omicron variant has been a major threat for all countries ever since it was discovered. Many scientists say that this variant might affect children too because in South Africa there are numbers of children (below 5) admitted to hospitals.
However, it is not confirmed yet if they are infected with the new variant Omicron.
