Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday extended heartfelt greetings to medical professionals across the country on the occasion of National Doctor’s Day, applauding their selfless service and unwavering commitment to the nation’s healthcare system.
In a post shared on social media platform X, the Prime Minister wrote, “Best wishes to all hardworking doctors on #DoctorsDay. Our doctors have made a mark for their dexterity and diligence. Equally notable is their spirit of compassion. They are truly protectors of health and pillars of humanity. Their contribution in strengthening India’s healthcare infrastructure is indeed exceptional.”
The Prime Minister underlined the critical role doctors have played in enhancing the nation’s healthcare capabilities, describing their efforts as both compassionate and tireless.
A tribute to Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy
National Doctor’s Day is celebrated every year on July 1 in memory of Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, an eminent physician and former Chief Minister of West Bengal. Notably, both his birth and death anniversary fall on the same day. In 1961, he was honoured with the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, for his remarkable contributions to medicine and public life.
The day, instituted in 1991 by the Government of India, aims to not only commemorate Dr Roy’s legacy but also recognize the ongoing efforts of medical professionals who serve tirelessly across the country.
PM Modi highlights dual contributions to society
In his recent address during the 123rd episode of his monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’, Prime Minister Modi drew attention to the significance of July 1, which also marks Chartered Accountants’ Day. He acknowledged both professions as crucial pillars of society — one safeguarding public health and the other guiding financial well-being.
“Doctors are the protectors of our health, and the CAs are the guides of economic life,” he said, emphasising the indispensable nature of both roles in societal development.
Union health minister’s message of gratitude
Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda also conveyed his appreciation to the medical fraternity, highlighting their dedication and resilience. “On National Doctor’s Day, I extend my heartfelt greetings to all doctors for their selfless service to humanity. Their round-the-clock dedication brings hope and saves countless lives every single day,” he stated.
He also extended his gratitude to all healthcare workers, recognising their collective contribution toward building a healthier India. “In every health emergency, you have stood tall at the frontlines, driven by compassion and an unshakable sense of duty. Your care, courage and sacrifice make you the true heroes of our society.”
