Exactly three days after the Balasore tragedy, where at least 275 people lost their lives and over 1000 are injured today, goods train from Dunguri, Odisha, for Bargarh derailed. According to reports, a goods train was carrying limestones.

Police have already arrived and are conducting an investigation. As of yet, no loss of life has been reported.

The good train is operated by a private cement firm, which maintains all the infrastructure, including the narrow gauge train tracks, rolling stock, engines, and wagons, according to the East Coast Railway, and it is unconnected to the Indian railway network.

Meanwhile, after the tracks, which had been severely damaged by the three-train accident, the Shalimar Chennai Cormandal Express- Howrah Bengaluru Superfast Express and the goods train, were rebuilt, passenger train service at the Baganaga railway station was resumed today. On both tracks of the main line, services started up about 51 hours after the severe collision.

On Sunday, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, the Railway Board had proposed handing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) control of the Odisha train tragedy case. This comes after he made the announcement that the root cause of the tragedy and those accountable for it had been found. He said that the accident happened due to an electronic interlocking intersystem.

However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also visited the site of the train tragedy in Balasore and promised that those found guilty will be severely punished. He added the government is supporting people who lost loved ones in the tragic mishap.

He also visited the local hospital at Balasore to meet the injured patients who were admitted there. Along with fellow cabinet members Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the PM was spotted visiting the location.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is on a 10-day trip to the United States of America receiving a mixed reaction from the people. A video going viral on social media showed members of a Sikh group asking the Congress leader to “go back” while others welcomed him delightfully. The incident reportedly happened in New York ahead of Rahul Gandhi’s address to the Indian diaspora.

In the viral video, some people from the Sikh community are holding Khalistani flags and posters written “Never forget June 1984”, and “Go back”.

Whereas a person can be seen saying that Rahul Gandhi is committed to constitutional values and hence he is there to welcome him.

Another person said that he hope that Rahul Gandhi can bring change in India and he wants to involve with Rahul Gandhi in Bharat Jodo Yatra.

Rahul Gandhi began his 10-day trip to the USA on Tuesday, May 30. On his first day, he interacted with the Indian diaspora and discussed issues like data safety, politics, the state of democracy in India, and his disqualification as a member of Parliament. On Wednesday during his first interaction with the NRIs in San Francisco, pro-khalistani slogans were raised.   

Rahul Gandhi’s first interaction however become controversial when he said that Guru Nanak ji had gone all the way to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, he had gone to Thailand, he had gone to Sri Lanka. Continuing with his statement Rahul Gandhi compared his Bharat Jodo Yatra with Guru Nanak Dev’s Udasis.

Countering Gandhi’s statement BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa asked Rahul Gandhi that where his information come from.

He also advised Rahul Gandhi to talk sensibly regarding religion.

On June 1984, the Indian Government launched Operation Bluestar, to flush out militants who were holed up in the Golden Temple. This operation was carried out by the order of then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi.

The situation in Manipur has been dire since violence broke out between Kuki and Mieti communities a month ago. The prices of essential commodities have shot up significantly, and there is a lack of life-saving drugs. Additionally, banks and ATMs have run out of cash. It all happened after civil bodies blocked National Highway Number 2 and obstructed good trucks from entering Imphal.

Since petrol pumps are running low on fuel, Manipur people are paying Rs 200 for a litre of petrol on the black market.

Prices of other essential commodities are also showing a steep rise. Prices of rice have risen to Rs. 60 per kg from Rs. 30 earlier. The cost of potatoes is now Rs. 40 instead of Rs. 15, and eggs are as costly as Rs. 10 per piece, up from the earlier Rs. 6.

This severe situation of high prices and shortages of essentials has reached such a state that people are panic-buying and hoarding.

Even the relief camps where people from both communities have taken shelter do not have enough food. People who have fallen ill in these camps are not getting medical aid.

These issues are compounded by the curfew that is relaxed only for a few hours every day, which is when people rush to buy all essential items and medicines.

The people of Manipur are battling multiple issues, including no internet, ATMs running out of cash, and the Reserve Bank of India’s announcement to withdraw Rs. 2000 from circulation. During the initial days of the curfew, banks operated for limited hours, causing a rush of people attempting to complete their essential transactions before the curfew relaxation expired. However, due to a fresh outbreak of violence, the banks were subsequently closed.

During his recent visit to Manipur, Home Minister Amit Shah announced the preparation of a relief and rehabilitation package for those affected by the conflict. Additionally, a peace committee comprising members of civil society, led by the Manipur Governor, will be established.

The central government has dispatched eight teams of medical experts, including 20 doctors, to aid the victims of the violence in Manipur.

To assist stranded individuals and regulate the prices of essential items, a temporary platform is being constructed at Khongsang railway station.
