On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Pune, Maharashtra, during which he will participate in several significant events. According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), at around 11 am, he will visit the Dagdusheth Mandir to perform darshan and pooja.
During the visit, Prime Minister Modi will also be honoured with the Lokmanya Tilak National Award. This prestigious award was established by Tilak Smarak Mandir in 1983 to commemorate the legacy of Lokmanya Tilak.
Subsequently, at 12:45 pm, the Prime Minister will inaugurate metro train services and lay the foundation stone for various development projects. The metro train services will mark the inauguration of the completed sections of the two corridors of Pune Metro Phase I. These sections include the route from Phugewadi station to the civil court station and from Garware college station to the Ruby Hall clinic station. These metro lines will connect vital locations in Pune city such as Shivaji Nagar, Civil court, Pune Municipal Corporation office, Pune RTO, and Pune Railway Station.
The project’s foundation was laid by Prime Minister Modi in 2016, and these new sections are a significant step towards fulfilling the vision of providing modern and eco-friendly mass rapid urban transport systems across the country.
Notably, the design of some metro stations along the route draws inspiration from Chatrapathi Shivaji Maharaj, with stations like Chatrapathi Sambhaji Udyan and Deccan Gymkhana reflecting a unique design resembling the headgear worn by soldiers of Chatrapathi Shivaji Maharaj (Mavala Pagadi). The Shivaji Nagar Underground metro station is designed reminiscent of the forts built by Chatrapathi Shivaji Maharaj.
Moreover, the Civil Court metro station is one of the deepest metro stations in the country, reaching a depth of 33.1 meters, and its design allows direct sunlight to fall on the platform. Additionally, during his visit, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the Waste to Energy Plant under the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. These initiatives demonstrate the government’s commitment to modern and sustainable development in the region
