Police arrest man with firearms near Mamata Banerjee’s residence
The arrest occurred on a Friday, shortly before the Chief Minister was scheduled to depart for the Martyr’s Day rally in central Kolkata.

A man was apprehended near the residence of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, carrying a firearm and a dagger, leading to a tense situation. Identifying himself as SK Noor Amin, the man claimed to be an intelligence officer and was found in possession of identity cards from different security agencies, including the Border Security Force (BSF). The incident, reported by Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal, raised serious concerns and prompted a thorough investigation into the man’s motives.
The arrest occurred on a Friday, shortly before the Chief Minister was scheduled to depart for the Martyr’s Day rally in central Kolkata. The man, donned in a black blazer and tie, arrived at Banerjee’s Kalighat residence in a sports utility vehicle with a conspicuous Police sticker. Upon noticing the sticker, the police questioned his identity, which he attempted to validate by presenting an intelligence officer’s identity card. However, suspicions remained, leading to his detainment and subsequent arrest.
During a thorough search, the police discovered the man in possession of a firearm, a bhojali (dagger), and ganja, further escalating the gravity of the situation. The authorities have intensified their efforts to investigate the matter, ascertaining whether he had any intentions to harm the Chief Minister or other individuals.
As part of the ongoing investigation, authorities have delved into the man’s background and found that he is a resident of Anandapur in east Kolkata. His wife, Poonam Bibi, revealed to reporters that he works with a human rights organization. Despite her attempts to contact him, he had been unresponsive to her calls. Local residents also shared information, mentioning his involvement in an interior decoration business.
The incident has raised concerns about security measures around high-profile individuals and sparked discussions on potential threats faced by public figures. The police are meticulously verifying all relevant information and conducting a detailed probe into the man’s motives, affiliations, and activities.

Amit Shah says Modi government will implement Citizenship Amendment Act and no one can stop it
Shah said voter and Aadhar cards are being openly and illegally distributed to infiltrators in the state. He asked if development ever going to take place in Bengal? He said this is the reason Mamata Banerjee is opposing CAA. Shah said CAA is the law of the country and no one can stop it.

Union Home Minster Amit Shah on Wednesday said the Narendra Modi government will implement the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and no one can stop it. He was addressing a rally in Kolkata to launch the BJP’s Lok Sabha campaign. Shah said West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been unable to stop infiltration in West Bengal.
Shah said voter and Aadhar cards are being openly and illegally distributed to infiltrators in the state. He asked if development ever going to take place in Bengal? He said this is the reason Mamata Banerjee is opposing CAA. Shah said CAA is the law of the country and no one can stop it.
CAA was passed by the Indian parliament in 2020. CAA offers citizenship to religious minorities who entered India through Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan before 2015. According to the Trinamool Congress the CAA is unconstitutional as it excludes Muslims and links citizenship to faith in a secular country.
The Centre had said the process for making news laws for CAA is going to start soon. Union Minister of state for home affairs Ajay Kumar Mishra had said the rules for CAA will be framed by March 30, 2024. Shah in his address at the esplanade said Banerjee government and the communists have ruined the state of Bengal. He said figures suggested election violence is the highest in Bengal all over India.
The home minister was confident the Bharatiya Janta Party will form government in Bengal with two thirds majority in the state elections in 2026. Shah urged the people of Bengal to ensure BJP wins with flying colours in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He requested the people to make PM Modiji the prime minister again. The BJP had won 18 seats which is the highest ever of the state’s 42 seats in the last state elections in 2019.
