[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Saradha scam accused former Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mukul Roy, who recently joined BJP, is now complaining about his phones being tapped.
Roy, who was not too long ago considered a close confidante of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, quit TMC and joined the BJP only recently. Now he and Mamata are daggers drawn.
Roy told a news channel that he had filed a petition with the Delhi High Court. He said the case was supposed to be heard on Friday (November 17), but will now be heard on Monday (November 20) “due to some official reasons”.
“For the last two months I am suspecting that my four mobile phones and one landline are being tapped. My movements were constantly tracked during my stay in Kolkata, Delhi and in Gujarat,” he said according to News 18.
“Mobile phones of my friends and other political leaders who are close to me are also tapped,” he added, saying: “even Trinamool Congress leaders are also under scanner and state agencies are tapping their phones.”
In his plea, Roy has reportedly asked the court to direct MTNL and Vodafone to reveal directives, if any, they had received from any authority to intercept calls from or received by Roy and his relatives.
Roy said last month he had written to Union Minister for Home Affairs Rajnath Singh, who has reportedly assured Roy of appropriate action.
Rajnath Singh reportedly wrote back to Roy, saying: “I have received your letter dated October 3, 2017, regarding alleged monitoring of your movements by the state administration. The matter is being examined for appropriate action,” according to agency reports.
Incidentally, Roy was still with the TMC when he wrote the letter, even though he had been suspended by the party leadership. He resigned from the party and his Rajya Sabha seat only on October 11. He officially joined the BJP only on November 3.
There had been allegations of him hobnobbing with the BJP much before he quit. There had been rumours that ever since CBI and the Enforcement Directorate started probe in the Saradha scam, Mukul Roy, an accused in the case, was desperately trying to reach out to BJP to save himself.
The phone taping allegations had also been made by the Centre’s junior minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Babul Supriyo.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
