Centre blames Kerala Covid spike on Onam festivities
Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on Sunday said that the rise in coronavirus cases in Kerala can be attributed to the gross negligence during Onam.

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on Sunday said that the rise in coronavirus cases in Kerala can be attributed to the gross negligence during Onam. He said that other states must learn a lesson from this and ensure that all precautions are taken during the celebration of festivals to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
While addressing his weekly social media programme Sunday Samvaad, the Health Minister said that the surge in coronavirus cases in the state took place due to gross negligence during the Onam festival. He said adequate precautions were not taken during festivities and large gatherings were responsible for the spike. During the interaction, the health minister also admitted that India was in the stage of community transmission. The minister said that transmission was limited to a few districts with dense population and that it was not happening across India. This is the first time Centre has confessed that the community transmission was indeed taking place.
The Kerala model, which was receiving huge praises in May, seems to have faltered as cases in the state have crossed three-lakh mark. The state is the list of top 10 states with maximum caseload and is adding 7,000 to 10,000 infections on a daily basis. The number is even more worrisome considering the size of the state.
Meanwhile, the Centre has taken cognizance of the spike in COVID-19 cases and has sent a team to monitor the situation and determine why the situation is becoming worse in the state. Experts have said that coming days are going to be challenging for Kerala and it is very important to ensure all the precautions are in place for upcoming festivals.

The silver lining for Kerala is the high recovery rate. The state government has said that the daily number of recoveries is higher than that of the daily number of infections.

A massive fire broke out at an under construction complex of the King George Medical University(KGMU) hospital in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.

KGMU is one of the eminent medical universities in India. It was set up in 1906, the idea of which was floated back in 1870 by the then Maharaja of Vizianagaram. The idea was put on hold due to lack of funds but later in 1905, George V inspired the idea of setting up the college.
Lucknow has been in the news since yesterday over the shoot-out that took place at a Lucknow Court complex. In the shoot-out, gangster Mukhtar Ansari’s close associate Sanjeev Maheshwari alias Jeeva was shot dead.
A man dressed as a lawyer entered the court complex and fired six rounds. In the incident, a 7-8 –year-old girl and a policeman were injured.
The accused has been identified as Vijay Yadav, a resident of UP’s Jaunpur district.
