Netflix, the world’s leading streaming service, has released its controversial documentary series, Bad Boy Billionaires, which is based on the alleged frauds committed by business tycoons Nirav Modi, Vijay Mallya, Ramalinga Raju and Sahara India chief Subrata Roy, after a month of legal tussle.

The series, which was to release on September 2, ran into legal troubles after Roy, Raju and Mehul Choksi filed cases seeking a stay on its release as they were being portrayed negatively. This forced Netflix to delay the release after a Hyderabad court passed a restraining injunction.

The episode on Satyam Computers founder Raju has been held back as his plea is still pending before a Hyderabad court. Raju’s plea said the series would invade his privacy in an unlawful manner and that it would bring down his reputation.

Three hour-long episodes of the series were released by the OTT platform on Monday. This comes days after a court in Bihar’s Araria district vacated the stay it had imposed on the series. Reports said Roy, chairman of the Sahara Group, had approached the court saying the series aims to malign his public image by featuring him alongside fugitive businessmen like Choksi, Mallya, Nirav Modi and Harshad Mehta.

Bad Boy Billionaire focuses on the lives of Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi, Subrata Roy and Ramalinga Raju, who achieved success in their businesses during their lifetime before being accused of numerous corruption charges.

The first episode of the series, titled The King of Good Times, is about Vijay Mallya. How the Kingfisher owner and Kingfisher Airline owner Vijay Mallya built a brand image of excess till his Kingfisher empire plunged into alleged money laundering and debt.

The second episode on Nirav Modi is titled, Diamonds Aren’t Forever. Dazzling the world’s elite to globalise his jewelry brand, Nirav Modi is suspected of illegally inflating diamond prices.

Bihar: Dalit woman stripped naked over Rs 1,500 loan, money lender, son booked for assault

In yet another shocking incident, a Dalit woman was assaulted in Bihar’s Patna district by a money lender and his son on Saturday, according to the police. The victim alleged that the accused also urinated on her and tried to disrobe her for not making recurring interest payments on a Rs 1,500 loan that her husband had taken.

According to the victim, Pramod Singh and his son Anshu Singh summoned her to their house on Saturday night mentioning that they had detained her husband and that he would be allowed to go only after the interest on the loan he took from them was fully repaid.

When she reached Singh’s house, her husband was not there. They had lied to her about detaining her husband. The father and son beat her up and tried to disrobe her, and the son also urinated upon her, the woman told the police.

The woman also mentioned that the Rs 1,500 her husband took on loan years ago had already been repaid with interest, but the money lender continued to seek interest from them at regular intervals.
