Rafale judgment review petitions dismissed by Supreme Court

The petitions seeking a review of the Supreme Court’s judgment refusing a CBI probe into the Rafale fighter jet deal and giving the centre a clean chit have been dismissed by the bench headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi.
“Don’t need an inquiry,” the bench comprising Justices SK Kaul and KM Joseph said while dismissing review petitions.
The apex court had on May 10 reserved its decision on the petitions, including the one filed by former union ministers Yashwant Sinha, Arun Shourie and activist lawyer Prashant Bhushan, seeking a review of its December 14 last year judgment which had declined to order probe into the corruption allegations in the Rafale deal to buy 36 fighter jets from French firm Dassault at a cost of Rs 58,000 crore.
In their petition, the trio had alleged that the judgment “relied upon patently incorrect claims made by the government in an unsigned note given in a sealed cover” to the Supreme Court.
The bench said the petition filed by Sinha, Shourie and Bhushan “lacked merit”.
