Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was the founder of the Maratha kingdom which he founded in the late 17th century. This year marks the 392nd birth anniversary of the great Maratha warrior. His birth anniversary is celebrated with zeal all over India, especially in Maharashtra. He was one of the great leaders who fought against the Mughals to establish the Maratha rule.

Born on 19 February 1630, in Pune’s Shivneri Fort, the warrior king was one of the most revolutionary, courageous, and morally superior rulers of India.

A secular ruler born to Jijabai and Shahji Bhonsle was crowned the Chhatrapati title, King of Marathas for his bravery and courage in 1974. Shivaji Maharaj is known for his bravery, military prowess, and well-organized civil administration system. Shivaji was a firm supporter of regional languages like Marathi and Sanskrit during his reign.

Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti 2022: Significance

Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, a social reformer, initiated the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti in 1870. Shivaji Maharaj’s tomb in Raigad was recognized by him. The first commemoration of the day took place in Pune. The great warrior king was named after the native Goddess Shivai, who had granted his mother’s wish for a son.
