Gautam Buddha’s childhood name was Siddhartha and he was married to Yashodhara at the age of 16.
Gautam Buddha was born in 563 BC at Lumbini in Kapilvastu.
His father’s name was Shuddha and he was the chief of a Shakya Gana and his mother’s name was Mayadevi.
At the age of 35, on the night of Vaishakhi Purnima (Falgu), he attained knowledge under the Peepal tree on the banks of the river, without accepting them, after 6 years of severe penance.
Buddha gave his first sermon at Sarnath, which has been called Dharmachakraparvartan in Buddhist texts.
His mother died on the seventh day of his birth when he was brought up by his stepmother Prajapati Gautami.
The Buddha’s last and most beloved disciple was Ananda who used to serve the Buddha by staying with him for twenty-four hours.
Buddha has given his teachings to the general public in the Pali language.
Gautam Buddha said that Buddhism is atheistic, it does not even have the concept of a soul and it believes in the belief of reincarnation.

Sharing the archival photo on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, the Election Commission of India said that the picture is of a press conference from 1967, addressed by then Chief Election Commissioner KVK Sundaram.

Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur took to X and wrote that a free press forms the bedrock of democracy and is rightly regarded as its fourth pillar. He also saluted all the journalists who dedicatedly perform their duties in a responsible, unbiased and professional manner, bringing news and educating masses on a variety of issues.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also extended his best wishes to all journalist friends on the National Press Day. He said that journalists are vigilant sentinels of democracy. He also congratulated all the journalists for continuously serving democracy with impartiality and fearlessness.
Extending warm greetings on the occasion, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said that the free press is the cornerstone of democracy and gives voice to the people. He further asked masses to pledge to safeguard the independence of the fourth pillar of democracy and empower the people with unbiased information.
Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah also conveyed greetings to the journalists stating them to be the guardians of truth. He added that journalist’s words shape their reality, shedding light on the stories that matter. He also extended gratitude to the fraternity for their unwavering dedication to journalism.
