Vaishakh Purnima is also celebrated as the birth anniversary of Mahatma Buddha.

Vaishakh Purnima 2022: Importance

Vaishakh Purnima has special significance for the followers of Hinduism and Buddhism. The birth anniversary of Mahatma Buddha is celebrated on May 16. For this reason, this day is special for the followers of Buddha. Moreover, Mahatma Buddha is also said to be the ninth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, which is also considered a crucial day in Hinduism.

Satya Vinayak Vrat on Vaishakh Purnima

There is also a tradition to observe Satya Vinayak fast on Vaishakh Purnima. It is believed that by observing Satya Vinayak fast on this day, poverty is removed. People also believe that Lord Krishna, who came to Sudama for help, had also told his friend Sudama (Brahmin Sudama) the vidhi (procedure) of this fast, after which his poverty was removed. There is a tradition to worship Dharmaraja on Vaishakh Purnima. It is believed that Dharmaraja is pleased with Satyavinayak fast. By observing this fast methodically, there is a belief that the devotee does not have the fear of premature death.

Vaishakh Purnima Vrat: Puja Vidhi

Bathing at pilgrimage sites on Vaishakh Purnima is not only important but Satyavinayak’s fast is also kept on this day. Due to which Dharmaraja is pleased. On this day, the fasting person should donate food along with a pitcher filled with water to the needy. Donating gold is also considered to be of great importance on this day. The fast observer should wake up early in the morning on a full moon day. Then the faster should bath and be clean.

After that, the fast observer will have to take Sankalp (pledge), and Lord Vishnu should be worshipped. During the night, the full moon should be worshiped with lamps, incense, flowers, food, jaggery, etc. and water should be offered. Thereafter, a pot filled with water should be donated to a deserving brahmin. One should take food himself only after providing food to a Brahmin or any needy person. Then, donate gold.
