World Diabetes Day 2021: Easy and quick homemade sugar-free desserts for diabetic patients

14th November is the day when World Diabetes Day is being celebrated globally each year. This day marks the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, who discovered the insulin hormone along with Charles Herbert Best in 1922.

World Diabetes Day was established in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation with support from WHO in response to growing concerns about the health and economic threat posed by diabetes. The theme of World Diabetes Day 2021-23 is “Access to Diabetes Care — If Not Now, When?” highlighting the importance of diabetes care.

Diabetes does not mean that you’ll never be able to enjoy dessert again. You may satisfy your sweet taste without raising your blood sugar levels by making a few easy substitutions and using diabetes-friendly dessert recipes. On this World Diabetes Day, we’ve compiled a list of diabetic-friendly desserts with a sugar-free twist.

  1. Oats Kheer
Oats Kheer is a delicious North Indian dessert. This delicacy is a healthier alternative to the traditional creamy kheer, prepared with oats, flax seeds, and almonds. You may never go back to the traditional rice kheer again as it’s so easy, fast, and nutritious!

Ingredients- 1 cup oats, 1/2 litre milk, sugar (optional), 4-5 Dates, 6-7 Almonds, 2 Cardamoms, 1 Banana, 6-7 Raisins

Roast oats for 4 to 5 minutes. In a pan add milk, sugar, cardamom, dates, almonds and raisins. Boil for about 5 minutes. Add oats and let them boil until it becomes thick. Once the kheer is done add fruits if you like and serve hot or cool.

  1. Dry Fruit Laddoo
Laddoos are an essential component of Indian cuisine. Sweet balls of deliciousness are a part of every celebration, holiday, or simply when we want something sweet. Here’s a nutritious delight of laddoos filled with the richness of dates and almonds. Quick, healthy, delicious, and completely guilt-free!

How to make dry fruit laddoo?
Ingredients- 1 cup almonds, 2 cup cashews, 1 cup raisins, poppy seeds as required, 1/2 cup ghee, 1/2 cup pistachios, 1/2 cup, walnuts, 1 cup raw peanuts, 1 1/2 cup dried dates, 1 cup oats, 1 cup coconut

Dry roast the dry fruits and nuts for a few seconds. Turn on the flame and pour ghee in the same pan over medium flame. Once the ghee is hot enough, pour this powder in it along with oats and poppy seeds. Saute for a few minutes over medium flame till you have lumps formed from this mixture. Let the mixture cool down. After some time, start making laddoos out of this mixture. Your sugar-free dry fruit laddoos are now ready.

Friendship Day 2026 is being celebrated on Sunday, August 2, across India and several other countries where the occasion falls on the first Sunday of August. The day recognises the importance of friendship and celebrates the companionship, trust and support that friends bring into people’s lives.

As people mark the occasion, many are exchanging heartfelt wishes, messages and quotes on social media platforms such as WhatsApp and Instagram to express gratitude for their closest friends.

History and significance of Friendship Day

The idea of Friendship Day was first introduced in 1930 by Joyce Hall, the founder of Hallmark Cards. The concept was to dedicate August 2 as a day for people to appreciate their friends by sending greeting cards. Although the tradition initially became popular, its appeal later declined in the United States.

The movement gained wider recognition in 1958 when Dr Ramon Artemio Bracho proposed celebrating friendship during a gathering in Puerto Pinasco, Paraguay. His initiative resulted in the formation of the World Friendship Crusade, an organisation that promotes peace and friendship among people worldwide.

In 2011, the United Nations officially declared July 30 as the International Day of Friendship. However, countries such as India continue to celebrate Friendship Day on the first Sunday of August.

Best Friendship Day 2026 quotes and wishes

Here are some messages and quotes that can be shared with friends on WhatsApp or posted as Instagram status updates:
