Covid raging: Haridwar gears up for Kumbh Mela in January 2021

Despite the practical problems posed by of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Kumbh Mela would be held in Haridwar next year said Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on Sunday.

Despite the practical problems posed by of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Kumbh Mela would be held in Haridwar next year, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said on Sunday.

The Kumbh Mela, which would begin from January 14, 2021, would be in its divine form, he added. Rawat attended a meeting with Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad (ABAP) office-bearers on Sunday about preparations for the 2021 Kumbh Mela starting from January 14.

Rawat said work of the Kumbh Mela would be reviewed from time to time and departmental secretaries have been directed to monitor it. The chief secretary has been directed to review the situation within 15 days, however,  the scope of the Kumbh Mela will depend on the status of Covid-19 at that time, he added.

ABAP chief Mahant Narendra Giri assured the Rawat government that the akharas will fully co-operate with the state government for the successful conduct of the Kumbh Mela.

In a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office, the Urban Development Minister Madan Kaushik said that during Kumbh Mela 2021, 35-50 lakh people are expected to bathe in the Ganga every day for which the planned arrangements would be made to avoid any trouble to devotees.

Kumbh Mela officer Deepak Rawat said that by December 15, work on nine new ghats, eight bridges and roads being built for the Kumbh Mela will be completed. The special focus is on cleanliness, he said. Works are also being done on encroachments removal, drinking water facilitation, parking facility among others, he said.

In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, Kumbh will be organised in Haridwar which will bring a sea of pilgrims to the holy town and enormous logistical challenges. The Kumbh Mela in Haridwar takes place once every 12 years. This time the Mela will be taking place after 11 years, this has happened earlier too, to be exact 80 years ago.

After a video of a man, dressed as Lankesh Ravana, grooving to the Haryanavi song Matak Chalungi on streets surfaced on the internet, another video of Ravana, along with his troop, dancing with a bar girl at a Ramleela stage is surfacing on social media.

In the viral video, Ravana and his troop of demons could be seen shaking their legs with the bar girl invited to perform at the Ramleela stage in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow. They also had alcohol bottles in their hands and performed a Bollywood song.

The 9-days-long festival, Navratri ended on October 5 with Vijayadashmi or Dussehra. Videos of the celebrations from across the country were crazy viral on social media. Multiple videos of Ramleela processions dominated the internet wherein the organisers invited bar girls to perform on the stage.

The videos also triggered social media outrage and also led to many arrests.

A similar incident, as reported above, took place in the Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh wherein pandal organisers invited bar girls to entertain the audience. In the viral video, the bar girl could be seen grooving to the popular Hindi item song Kanta Laga. In the background, Rama and Lakshman could be seen enjoying the bar girl.

Meanwhile, the Dusshera procession in many cities became problematic as the Ravana effigies fell due to bad weather while in some cities the effigies, on fire, fell on people who gathered to enjoy the procession creating a ruckus.

Several videos of the procession went viral on the internet wherein people could be seen injured. An incident was reported in Muzaffarnagar’s Government Inter College in Uttar Pradesh wherein the Ravana effigy backfired with crackers. The incident was dubbed Ravana’s revenge, however, it raised severe concerns about mismanagement during setting up Ravana effigies.

A video of 2 men drowning a woman in a scummy pond and mercilessly thrashing her in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow is doing rounds on the internet.

In the now-viral video, the man was dragging the victim toward a scummy pond. He then was joined by another man and both of them threw punches at her and tried to drown her. However, she managed to rescue herself and fight up. The video also shows another woman trying to save the victim and then they are chased by two men.

Reports say the incident took place in the Bheekhanpur village area which comes under the Nigoha police station. The fight broke over taking buffalos to the pond. The incident took place on September 4, however, the video went viral now.

The police have arrested the accused after the video went viral and the search process is underway for the other accused who escaped, reports further said.

In May 2022, a similar incident took place in Pune, Maharashtra wherein a man killed his wife by drowning her in front of their children at Mandvi.

The daughter said her father had an argument with her mother and left home threatening to end his life. He later jumped into a well and pretended to be drowning. The daughter also informed that her father knew swimming, reports stated.

Her mother then rushed to save him after hearing his cries. The accused father then pulled her hands into the well and drowned her to death, the daughter said in the police complaint.

In another incident, a 33-year-old government school teacher was drowned to death by her husband and his brother in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. Reports said the accused persons took her in their car on the Ganga canal road and pushed the vehicle into the 16-meter-deep canal.

Uttar Pradesh: 19-year-old girl strangled to death after being raped in Mainpuri

It is being speculated that fearing that the girl student would complain, the accused raped, murdered the 19 year old and fled from the spot.

The shocking news of rape has come to light from Bhogaon in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri. After raping the girl student on Wednesday, she was strangled to death and the body was later hanged.

On receiving information about the incident, the police-administration reached the spot and started the investigation in search of the accuse. Currently, the police has sent the body for post-mortem.

While interacting with the media and giving out information about this incident of rape and murder, Mainpuri SP Kamlesh Dixit said that, the police had received information about the rape and murder of the girl in Nagla Sheesham village. The police reached the spot and took immediate action in the matter. He also assured that the culprits will be arrested soon.

According to the information received to the police, a 19-year-old student of B.Sc. second year and resident of Nagla Sheesham village of Bhogaon police station area, was present at home along with her fifteen year old sister. Their parents had gone out for some work an around 3 o’clock in the evening, Pushpendra Lodhi (25), from the same village entered the house and forcibly raped the girl.

And the accused did not stop there he strangled the girl to death and later hanged the body on the noose. It is being speculated that fearing that the girl student would complain, the accused raped, murdered the 19 year old and fled from the spot.

However, the younger sister present in the house made noise and opened the door of the house, telling the people of the neighborhood about the whole incident. There was a stir in the village as soon as the information about the incident got spread. As soon as the information was received, the parents also hurriedly left for home. At present, the police is looking for the accused.
