North Indian hill states of Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh are likely to witness thunderstorm accompanied with squall, while parts of Rajasthan might see dust storm over the next two days, the IMD said on Saturday, May 12.
This weather condition over these and its subsequent effect on plains in north Indian is due to a new western disturbance from tomorrow. Western disturbance originates in the Mediterranean Sea that brings sudden rains to northwestern parts of India.
Thunderstorm accompanied with squall with wind speed reaching 50-70 km per hour are “very likely” at isolated places over east Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand, said the Indian Meteorological Deaprtment (IMD).
“Thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds also very likely at isolated places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, west Uttar Pradesh, Vidharbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Telangana, north coastal Andhra Pradesh, south interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Lakshadweep and Kerala,” an Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) advisory said.
Heat wave conditions are very likely at one or two pockets over Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh and Vidharbha.

♦ Thunderstorm accompanied with squall (wind speed reaching 5070 kmph) very likely at isolated places over Uttar Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar and Odisha.
♦ Thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds very likely at isolated places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, south Madhya Maharashtra, South Interior Karnataka, Lakshadweep, Kerala and Tamilnadu & Puducherry.
♦ Heavy rain very likely at isolated places over South Interior Karnataka, Lakshadweep and Kerala.
♦ Heat wave conditions very likely at some places with severe heat wave at one or two pockets over Vidarbha and at some places over West Madhya Pradesh and at one or two pockets over Telangana, north Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, East Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
♦ Dust/Thunderstorm very likely at isolated places over Rajasthan.

♦ Thunderstorm accompanied with squall (wind speed reaching 5070 kmph) and hail very likely at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
♦ Thunderstorm accompanied with squall (wind speed reaching 5070 kmph) very likely at isolated places over East Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal & Sikkim, Jharkhand and Odisha.
♦ Thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds very likely at isolated places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Bihar.
♦ Heavy rain very likely at isolated places over Kerala.
♦ Heat wave conditions very likely at some places over Vidarbha.
♦ Dust/Thunderstorm very likely at isolated places over Rajasthan.
Several states in north India have witnessed erratic weather pattern over the fortnight. Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan have alone witnessed over 120 deaths due to thunderstorm and violent winds in the first week of May.
