Democratic Azad Party

Former Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad today launched a new political party, Democratic Azad Party, in Jammu and Kashmir. The flag colours of this party would be blue, white and yellow.

Ghulam Nabi Azad claimed that it would be a democratic party with independent thinking and ideology. He further said that the elections could take place at any time in the state. They would continue their political activities, but they won’t make article 370 an election issue.

He said that mustard colour indicated creativity and unity in diversity, white indicated peace and blue indicated freedom, open space, imagination and limits from the depths of the ocean to the heights of the sky.

A Twitter user wrote that earlier, senior Congress leaders who went their separate way would often use the word ‘Congress’ in the names of their outfits. But as Democratic Azad Party demonstrates, the word has completely lost its brand value.

Blaming Rahul Gandhi for losing in the 2014 general elections, he said that one of the most glaring examples of this immaturity was the tearing up of a government ordinance in the full glare of the media by Rahul Gandhi.

He also criticized Rahul Gandhi for his childish behaviour. The senior Congress leader further said that Rahul Gandhi completely subverted the authority of the Prime Minister and the government of India. This one single action more than anything else contributed significantly to the defeat of the UPA government in 2014.

Congress on getting confined to North Gujarat

On the other hand, Congress has broken silence on their crushing defeat in Gujarat. Congress leader are trying to at lest stay positive on Twitter and on camera, as they said that the grand old party is busy celebrating their win in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat loss will be seen as a lesson. Moreover, Congress is also likely to lose the post of the Leader of Opposition in the state.

Rahul Gandhi’s Congress barely managed to win 17 seats in Gujarat. This is severely down from its tally of 77 in the 2017 elections. This is also the worst performance of the Congress in Gujarat. Experts are blaming Congress’s silent, localised door-to-door campaign for a near evaporation of the party.

However, at least Congress was able to win seats in North Gujarat and win Himachal Election but despite several campaigns the election results have come as a disappointment to the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party. AAP could not draw enough voters and had to settle for 5 seats in its debut elections in Gujarat and worst to their fears the party drew a blank in Himchal Pradesh.

But Contrary to how things may appear, AAP has a lot to look forward. Yes! the party may have only won MCD elections but did manage to leave an impression despite its single-digit tally in the state. Winning 5 seats, Aam Aadmi Party has dared to breach the fortress of PM Modi and Amit Shah in Gujarat.

With its government in two states and one Corporation under its fold, Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party. now ranks third after the BJP and Congress, leaving behind all other regional parties.

The names of the candidates who are in the race to be perceived as potential CM include Congress’s State Party President Pratibha Singh who is reportedly among the favorites from the lot. The other 2 potential CM faces include Former Party Chief Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu and CLP leader Mukesh Agnihotri.

Pratibha Singh, the wife of the former CM of Himachal Vibhadra Singh, is considered to be the favorite to continue on her husband’s legacy who was voted into power for 4 terms. She, however, didn’t contest the election but was amongst the leading people who ran the Congress’s Himachal campaign effectively, leading to them being voted into power.

Singh has claimed the loyalty of all the MLAs who were loyal to her Husband priorly and hence it is reported that she is confident about being chosen as the CM.

On the other hand, Naduan’s MLA Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu and Haroli MLA Agnihotri should be hoping to be in the race of favorites owing to their former stint as PCC chief and as Congress Legislature Party leader. It would be interesting to see the grand old party’s decision on the CM role as the BJP had previously questioned the Congress over its CM candidate.
