At the third meeting of the coalition, which will be held in Mumbai from August 31 to September 1, a suggestion for an awareness campaign regarding the Opposition Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance’s (INDIA) core value of preserving the Constitution will be addressed, according to a group leader.
Dipankar Bhattacharya, the leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation, said the campaign will aid in spreading awareness of the importance of unity before the national elections in 2024. He said, a schedule (for the campaign) could be thrashed out at Mumbai, reads the statement from the opposition group. He also said, their primary aim is to spread the message that the opposition bloc has been formed to defend the constitution and to fight the BJP-led NDA (National Democratic Alliance) government.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar reportedly spoke with INDIA officials about the topic of the Mumbai summit during his two-day visit to Delhi, according to people with knowledge of the situation. The meeting’s draught agenda is being prepared. According to a source close to the development, Congress, Kumar, and other politicians discussed the further plans.
After travelling to Delhi for a check-up and the death anniversary of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Kumar arrived back in Patna on Thursday. He insisted that he was not there to speak with the INDIA grouping. The CM said, they continue to communicate with Congress and other officials. He also said, they talk about the phone.
The Rashtriya Janata Dal and Janata Dal (United) want to run for 15 seats apiece in Bihar, leaving the Congress and Left parties with about 10 seats. Congress desires 8–10 seats.
According to Bhattacharya, his party wants four seats, but the choice would be made collaboratively. The seat-sharing plan will focus on fielding candidates against the BJP and NDA and be more or less state-specific.
BJP leader Nikhil Anand claimed that the opposition is not united since they do not yet have a leader. He said, by starting a national campaign, will they persuade people that Article 370 [of the Constitution] won’t be reinstated, as demanded by the National Conference and People Democratic Party [Jammu and Kashmir parties]? They seek to repeal the anti-conversion statute in Karnataka, the leader added. They merely seek political polarisation and appeasement in the pretext of defending secularism, Nikhil Anand said.
