Assembly election: Congress coming in huge majority, says Rahul Gandhi as Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh vote

Rahul Gandhi asked the voters to elect a Congress government that has the trust of the poor, farmers, women and youth.

As assembly elections began in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that his party will come with a huge majority. Today, Chhattisgarh will be voting for the second phase of election, with 958 candidates in the fray for 70 assembly seats across 19 districts. Meanwhile, in Madhya Pradesh, more than 2,000 candidates are contesting for 230 seats in the state assembly.

Taking to social media platform X, Rahul Gandhi shared a video of him addressing and interacting with the people of the states and wrote that Congress strom is coming in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh in huge majority. He urged people to come out and vote in large numbers. He further asked the voters to elect a Congress government that has the trust of the poor, farmers, women and youth.

PM Narendra Modi also took to X and expressed that he is confident that voters from every region of Madhya Pradesh will vote enthusiastically and enhance the beauty of the great festival of democracy. He also extended his special greetings to all the youth of the state who voted for the first time in this election.

In another tweet, he wrote that today is the second and last round of voting in Chhattisgarh assembly elections. He urged all the voters to exercise their franchise adding that every vote is valuable for democracy.

Notably, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and state Congress chief Kamal Nath are in the fray for today’s polls. In Chhattisgarh, the Patan constituency will witness a triangular battle between the ruling Congress, BJP and Janata Congress Chhattisgarh. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel will fight it out against his nephew and BJP’s Vijay Baghel. Meanwhile, the Janata Congress Chhattisgarh has fielded the party’s supremo and former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi’s son, Amit Jogi, in the seat.

The counting of the votes will take place on December 3.

The ruling Congress in Karnataka won three seats and the BJP one in the Rajya Sabha elections in Karnataka on Tuesday. The candidates who were selected to Rajya Sabha are Syed Naseer Hussain, GC Chandrasekhar and Ajay Maken who belong to the Congress, and Narayansa K Bhandage of the BJP.

Congress candidates Naseer Hussain and former union minster Ajay Maken won with 47 votes, while GC Chandrasekhar secured 45 votes. The BJP won 1 Rajya Sabha seat from Karnataka with candidate Narayansa Bhandage securing 47 votes.

Each Rajya Sabha candidate needed at least 45 votes in the 224-MLA Karnataka Assembly to win a Rajya Sabha seat from the state. With 135 MLAs, the Congress had the exact number to elect its three candidates. The BJP has 66 MLAs, which secured a comfortable win for party worker Narayansa Bhandage.

The Rajya Sabha seats fell vacant following the retirement of 4 members – Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar (BJP) and Congress’s GC Chandrashekhar, Syed Naseer Hussain and L Hanumanthaiah

5 candidates contested for the 4 Rajya Sabha seats in the elections, including JD(S) contestant D Kupendra Reddy. The elections were marred by cross-voting. One of the BJP MLAs, ST Somasekhar voted for the Congress’s Maken, the other, A Shivaram Hebbar, abstained. Leader of Opposition R Ashoka said they would seek action against Somahekhar, and termed the MLA’s decision political suicide. Soon after voting, Somashekhar told the media that he voted as per his conscience.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in Thiruvanthpuram on Tuesday that the BJP would win double-digit seats from Kerala in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The Prime Minister was addressing a rally of BJP workers to mark the conclusion of a month-long, state-wide padyatra led by party state president K Surendran.

The Prime Minister said during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Kerala gave a two digit vote share for the BJP but this time the party will win 2 digit seats from Kerala. He added the opposition parties have realised their defeat in the elections of 2024. PM Modi said they have lost their mental balance. He said the opposition parties do not have a roadmap for the country’s development.

He said their only agenda is to utter abuses against Modi. He said he is confident that Kerala will stand with him this time. This has been the prime minister’s third visit to Kerala in less than 2 months. The prime minister said the huge crowd that had joined the Surendran-led padyatra has made the BJPs target of 370 seats in the Lok Sabha easier.

The Prime Minister said he is committed to fulfill the expectations of people and this is Modi’s guarantee. He said the BJP-led union government has never shown any discrimination towards Kerala. He said in the last 10 years the BJP-led central government has ensured Kerala’s development and the wise people of the state know this.

PM Modi predicted that in the third term of the BJP government, India will become the largest force in the world and this is Modi’s Guarantee. He said the third Modi government will increase its fight against corruption. He added in the last 10 years, more than 25 crore people have been brought out of poverty. The Prime Minister referred to various development projects and schemes which have been launched during the BJP rule at the centre.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur shared the Mera Pehla Vote Desh Ke Liye anthem on his Twitter handle on Tuesday. He urged everyone to share it and join the Mera Pehla Vote Mere Desh Ke Liye campaign.

The Union Minister encouraged people to motivate young voters to exercise their democratic rights as the nation gears up for its biggest festival of democracy.

He requested people to take on the responsibility of the campaign and celebrate the power of their collective voices online on the My Government India website and in colleges.

Responding to the union minister’s tweet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also urged people from all walks of life to spread the message about the Mera Pehla Vote Mere Desh Ke Liye Campaign among first-time voters.

Meanwhile, the election commission’s campaign, Mera Pehla Vote Desh Ke Liye, is underway to spread awareness among first-time voters and encourage young voters to exercise their democratic rights.

Earlier on Sunday, during Mann ki Baat, PM Modi urged first-time voters to come forward in large numbers and vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He said that India takes pride in its youth power, which is full of enthusiasm and energy. He emphasized that the more young people participate in the electoral process, the more beneficial it will be for the country.

PM Modi said to the young voters that by turning 18, they have the opportunity to elect a member for the Lok Sabha. He further explained that this means that the 18th Lok Sabha will also symbolise youth aspirations. Therefore, the importance of their vote has increased significantly.

Notably, PM Modi also urged the influencers of the country, from the sports world, film industry, literature world, other professionals, or Instagram and YouTube influencers, that they too should actively participate in this campaign and motivate first-time voters.
