Aur Lado Aapas Mein: Omar Abdullah’s tweet highlights infighting amid Delhi election trends

As early trends in the Delhi Assembly elections began showing a growing lead for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), National Conference leader Omar Abdullah took to Twitter with a biting commentary on the ongoing infighting between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress. The tweet, posted at 9:15 AM, featured a humorous GIF of a character named Rishi saying, “Aur Lado Jee Bhar Kar Lado, Samaapt Kardo Ek Doosre Ko” (“Fight as much as you want, just finish each other off”), along with the text, “Aur Lado Aapas Mein” (“And fight among yourselves”).

The timing of the tweet, coinciding with the early counting trends that saw BJP gaining momentum, pointed directly at the internal rift between AAP and Congress as they face off in the crucial Delhi elections. The tweet suggested that while the two parties were caught up in their bickering, the BJP was quietly making its gains.

The infighting between AAP and Congress has been a notable feature of the Delhi polls. AAP, led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, has frequently criticized Congress for not taking a more aggressive stance against the BJP, while Congress has accused AAP of undermining its efforts in various electoral campaigns. This rivalry has only intensified as both parties vie for dominance in the national capital.

In his tweet, Omar Abdullah seemed to mock the situation, suggesting that AAP and Congress should focus less on their infighting and more on winning against their common rival, the BJP. The GIF, accompanied by the tweet, added a humorous twist to what could otherwise be seen as a scathing remark on the disunity between the two opposition parties.

As per the early results, the BJP has shown strong performance in several constituencies, while AAP and Congress candidates appear to be struggling. The situation has set the stage for an intense day of counting, and Abdullah’s tweet highlights the political reality—while AAP and Congress waste time in internal conflicts, BJP continues to capitalize on its organized campaign.

Omar Abdullah, known for his sharp political commentary, has a reputation for speaking candidly about the dynamics of Indian politics, and this tweet seems to be a direct critique of the lack of cohesion between opposition parties in Delhi. The former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister’s comments also reflect broader frustrations with the fragmentation of opposition forces, which has often been seen as a weakness in the face of a united BJP.

With the counting process still underway, it remains to be seen whether the AAP will manage to recover from the early setbacks and defend its position in Delhi, or if the BJP will ride its momentum to a decisive victory. Either way, Abdullah’s tweet serves as a reminder that internal squabbles in the opposition camp may be doing more harm than good in the battle against a resurgent BJP.

India stresses mutual respect in ties with Italy after Congress’ Meloni remark

India stressed mutual respect and understanding in its ties with Italy after Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, made remarks involving Giorgia Meloni.

India underlined the importance of maintaining mutual respect and understanding in its relationship with Italy, a day after Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s handling of foreign policy.

The Ministry of External Affairs said India and Italy share strong bilateral ties and expressed its commitment to further strengthening the relationship.

“We share deep and strong ties with Italy, and we are committed to further strengthening this relationship,” the MEA said. It added that friendship and bilateral relations between countries should be maintained within a framework of mutual respect and understanding.

The statement came after a political controversy over remarks made at a Congress event in Delhi.

Rahul Gandhi’s mock hug draws BJP criticism

At the Congress event, Rahul Gandhi greeted party leader Sandeep Dikshit with a mock hug. Gandhi had earlier criticised the Prime Minister’s approach to diplomacy, suggesting that it was being reduced to symbolic gestures such as hugging foreign leaders.

Dikshit then brought Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni into the exchange with a remark, following which Rahul Gandhi played along.

The episode drew sharp criticism from BJP leaders, who accused the Congress leader of using inappropriate language against the Prime Minister and lowering the dignity associated with the office of the Leader of Opposition.

Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi questioned Rahul Gandhi’s conduct and said India required mature leadership. He also criticised remarks in which Gandhi had referred to the government as “jokers and clowns”.

BJP leaders target Rahul Gandhi

Union Minister Giriraj Singh also attacked Rahul Gandhi, describing him as “mentally frustrated” and questioning his conduct.

BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj said Rahul Gandhi’s language was inconsistent with the dignity expected from the Leader of Opposition.

BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla also criticised the Congress leader, saying that while disagreement with Prime Minister Modi was legitimate, bringing a foreign woman leader into what he described as a crude joke was neither appropriate nor statesmanlike.

The MEA’s statement, meanwhile, focused on India’s bilateral relationship with Italy and reiterated that mutual respect and understanding remain important to maintaining ties between the two countries.
