Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), alleging a growing rift between the two alliance partners in Bihar’s opposition bloc. Addressing a rally in Muzaffarpur, he said that reports from across the state indicated “fights between the leaders of Congress and RJD”, calling their alliance as incompatible as “water and oil”.
PM Modi accused both parties of coming together merely to “grab power and loot Bihar,” asserting that their partnership was based on selfish motives rather than governance. “Their rallies are nothing but a sham,” he remarked.
The Prime Minister further said that the people of Bihar would once again bless the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), adding that his party’s goal was to ensure progress and promote Bihar’s culture globally. He contrasted the NDA’s development agenda with what he described as the RJD-Congress legacy of “betrayal and false promises.”
“RJD-Congress alliance symbolises misrule and corruption”
PM Modi claimed that the misrule of the Congress and RJD can be summed up in five words — “katta (country-made pistols), kroorta (cruelty), katuta (social resentment), kushasan (misgovernance), and corruption.” He alleged that the RJD’s tenure nearly two decades ago, often termed as “jungle raj,” had witnessed around 35,000 kidnappings in Bihar.
“Where there is katta, where cruelty reigns, there the law breaks down,” the PM added, emphasising that the NDA stands for governance rooted in development and cultural pride.
PM slams opposition over Chhath remark
Continuing his attack, the Prime Minister criticised Congress and RJD leaders for allegedly insulting the Chhath festival, an important cultural and religious celebration in Bihar. The remarks came days after Rahul Gandhi accused the PM of “drama” over Chhath Puja.
“Your son is busy praising Chhathi Maiya before the world, but Congress and RJD leaders are insulting Chhathi Maiya for votes,” Modi said, drawing a strong response from the crowd. “Can anyone insult Chhathi Maiya to get votes? Bihar will never forgive those who have insulted Chhath Puja,” he added.
He also revealed that the central government is working towards securing UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage status for the Chhath festival.
