Different states in northeast are facing attacks from BJP, says Rahul Gandhi in election-bound Mizoram

Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday addressed the media at election-bound Mizoram. During the address, the Congress leader claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party is trying to capture the entire institutional framework of the country. He added that Congress helped lay the foundation of the country and they have a record of defending that foundation.

Rahul Gandhi continued that they believe India is a union of states and all the religions, cultures and historic needs have to be protected. He added that his party’s vision is of decentralisation and giving power to the people, and the BJP-RSS vision of centralising power in Delhi and taking all decisions from the centre.

The former Congress President underlined that they will protect the values of India, protect the Constitution of India and will defend the idea of India. He further claimed that different states in the northeast are facing attacks from the BJP and RSS and threatening the foundations of their religious beliefs. Mentioning that Mizoram should not be governed directly from Delhi, Rahul Gandhi stated that RSS holds the belief that India should be governed by a single ideology and organisation, which they are opposing.

Speaking in poll-bound state, Rahul Gandhi affirmed that they are committed to providing a vision for Mizoram, that includes, an old age pension of Rs 2000 per month, gas cylinder for Rs 750 and economic development for entrepreneurs. He highlighted that unemployment among youth is the major reason for drug menace in Mizoram. He remarked that they will focus on providing employment opportunities to the youth of Mizoram.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi further noted that his party believes in testing ideas and then implementing it in other states. He also put forward the examples of healthcare schemes in Rajasthan, social security programs in Karnataka, and pro-Kisan policies in Chhattisgarh. Rahul Gandhi stated that their goal is to expand these aforesaid effective programs to the rest of India when they come to power in Delhi.

Earlier on Monday, Rahul Gandhi commenced a padayatra in Aizwal. Speaking on the same, the Congress leader expressed that he enjoyed coming to Mizoram and had a nice walk through Aizwal, where a large number of people came out with the same spirit as Bharat Jodo. Mizoram will go into polls on November 7.

Party leaders met in the presence of senior central leadership to finalise the chief ministerial face ahead of the swearing-in ceremony scheduled for May 9.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended the legislature party meeting where Adhikari’s name was formally announced. Reports said the BJP leadership backed him after he emerged as the party’s strongest face in Bengal politics over the past few years.

Adhikari played a major role in the BJP’s campaign across the state and remained one of the party’s most aggressive leaders against the ruling Trinamool Congress. He also defeated former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur during the Assembly elections, strengthening his position within the party.

The BJP’s victory is being viewed as a major political shift in West Bengal, where the party is set to form its first government. Adhikari, once a senior Trinamool Congress leader, had joined the BJP before the 2021 Assembly elections and later became Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly.
