Congress leader Shashi Tharoor trolled former Australian captain Michael Clarke after India’s historic win against Australia in the fourth Test match in Brisbane on Tuesday. Known for using little known words, Tharoor also shared the word of the day fitting India’s second successive series victory in Australia.
Tharoor took to Twitter and shared the word “epicaricacy”, which he defined as an act of taking pleasure from the misfortune of others. Alongside his tweet, he posted a graphic of former Australian cricketers and a former England captain, who had all predicted trouble for India ahead of the fourth Test at Brisbane’s Gabba, a ground where the Australian team had not defeated since 1988.
The screenshot had comments from former Australian captains Michael Clarke, Ricky Ponting, former England captain Michael Vaughan, among others. Clarke had predicted that India would be in deep trouble if they battled Australia without India captain Virat Kohli. He had said if they even beat Australia without him, they could celebrate for a year.
Reminding Clarke of the prediction he had made ahead of the series, the politician tweeted that Michael Clarke was right, let’s celebrate for a year starting with hammering the English from next month. In another tweet, he wrote, “I am not the gloating kind, but there’s a special pleasure in reading these comments today.”
Further, Tharoor heaped praise on a number of Indian cricketers for their performance in the match, including Rishabh Pant, Cheteshwar Pujara and Mohammed Siraj. However, he reserved the most for captain Ajinkya Rahane, who took over the reins after Virat Kohli went on paternity leave.
He said Rahane took a team that had been drubbed in the First Test and had lost its captain and best bat, had a star paceman injured and were considered no-hopers. Rahane moulded them all to bring the best out of themselves and made winners out of them.
Describing him a great captain, Tharoor said Rahane made his team stakeholders in and owners of his greatest triumphs.

Meanwhile, India’s win in the Brisbane Test has been lauded all over the world, knowing the fact that its entire front-line bowling line-up was injured, forcing the side to play with a woefully inexperienced bowling line-up, including two debutants.
