Boria Majumdar and Wriddhiman Saha

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday took strict action against a sports journalist Boria Majumdar and banned him for threatening the international cricketer and Wriddhiman Saha over chat. The cricket board made it clear that the journalist will not be allowed to go inside stadiums premises and will not be given media accreditation for home matches for that period of time.

The board’s decision comes a week after it has set up a three-member committee in February to look into the matter when the cricketer shared a screenshot of threatening messages from Majumdar over an interview request on his social media handles. The incident took the spark when big Indian players like Ravi Shastri, Parthiv Patel, Harbhajan Singh, and Virender Sehwag came in support of Saha and criticized the journalist for his unprofessional behavior.

While sharing the screenshot of his conversation with the journalist, on February 19, Saha wrote on his official Twitter handle that after all of his contributions to the Indian cricket…this is what he has to face from a so-called “Respected” journalist! This is where the journalism has gone, Saha added in his tweet.

In one of the screenshots shared by the cricketer, Journalist wrote that he will not call or take his interview ever. I don’t take insults kindly. And I will remember this, Majumdar added in one of his messages to Saha.

Tweeple also slammed the journalist for his behavior. One of the Saha’s fans wrote that this is not the way to treat the sportsmen like that and asked the board to increase the ban period from two years to 5 years. While another fan said that nowadays journalists are behaving like mafias, they should have some sense of talking, fan added in his tweet.
