Ravindra Jadeja

Chennai Super King’s all-rounder and former skipper, Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out of IPL 2022. The reason behind his exit is his rib injury. The former skipper had a poor outing this season and even gave up captaincy to focus on his game but now, the cricketer will have to return back home.

In an official statement released by CSK it is stated that Ravindra Jadeja reported a bruised rib and hence he was also unavailable for CSK’s game against Delhi Capitals on Sunday. Being under observation, the cricketer has been medically advised to rest and recover. Henceforth Jadeja has been ruled out for the rest of the IPL season.

Moreover, another fact that has been bothering CSK fans is that the official Instagram account of Chennai Super Kings has even unfollowed Jadeja. This incident took place after the former skipper was ruled out of the tournament. The news of the possible ongoing rift between the franchise and Jadeja has spread among fans like wildfire.

When the CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan was asked about Jadeja’s exit and the ongoing social media rift, the man asked media not to read too much into it. “I have no clue about all this stuff like Instagram and Twitter and so I won’t be able to tell you much about these things,” the CEO said.

Ravindra Jadeja led Chennai Super Kings in the initial eight games in IPL 2022 but the consecutive losses against six teams demotivated the player and he handed over the captaincy to the most successful captain, MS Dhoni.

Not just as a captain but also as a player also, Ravindra Jadeja did not have a great outing. He only managed to score 116 runs in 10 matches and picked only five wickets.

On the other hand, CSK is looking a much different side under MS Dhoni in IPL 2022. Dhoni led the team to two wins in three games. And CSK currently has eight points from 11 matches hence, their chances to qualify for the play-offs are slim but alive.

Asia Cup wrangle pits Sri Lanka Cricket Board against Pakistan Cricket Board

The Pakistan Cricket Board and the Sri Lankan Cricket Board are not on the best of terms at the moment. The PCB is not happy with the Sri Lankan board for offering to host the Asia Cup and has refused to play a one-day international series in Sri Lanka.

Pakistan will tour Sri Lanka in July to play two Tests of the next ICC World Test championship. Apparently, the Sri Lankan Cricket Board had suggested that Pakistan play a few one-day international matches as they were positive the Sri Lankan team will book a spot for the ODI World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe. Hence, they would need more exposure before the event in October.

The PCB had initially said that they would consider the offer but refused it later. This sends a clear message that the PCB is not happy with the Sri Lankan Cricket Board’s proposal to host the Asia Cup as it was Pakistan’s turn to host the regional event.

PCB chief Najam Sethi was also upset with the response from the boards of Bangladesh and Afghanistan as well over the Asia Cup issue. Sethi had expected that Sri Lankan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan boards would convince the BCCI to go with the hybrid model as proposed by PCB.

The PCB chief did not refute media reports that the BCCI has rejected Sethi’s hybrid model and wants the tournament to be held in Sri Lanka. The bone of contention in the controversy is the Indian board is unlikely to send its team to play in Pakistan, though it has not formally announced the same, it has been making gestures to that effect.

A senior BCCI official said that there is absolutely no chance that Pakistan could hold the Asia Cup. The BCCI would like it if the ICC Champion’s Trophy is also moved out of Pakistan. According to reports, Sri Lanka was likely to hold the event. But the final decision will be made at the ACC meeting.

With strong relations between the BCCI and Sri Lanka Cricket, the BCCI wants the event to happen in Sri Lanka. At the next ACC meeting, the PCB chief will be conveyed the message.
