IPL 2022

Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Titans is the first team to qualify for the IPL playoffs. And last night, defeating Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals has already booked their tickets for the qualification. And the most successful team of Indian Premiere League, five-time champions Mumbai Indians are already out of contention.

After 58 matches in IPL 2022, each team played at least 11 games and hence, eight teams are still in the race to reach the knockouts. As of now, Gujarat Titans is the only team in IPL 2022 to have confirmed their spot.

However, Gujarat’s contention was not that easy as it seems. The team led by Hardik Pandya was on the cusp of qualifying easily, but consecutive loses, against Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians, delayed their march to the knockouts. However, they sealed their first contention to the play offs of IPL 2022 by defeating Lucknow Super Giants by 62 runs.

In the current scenario, the two new teams are topping the charts. Gujarat has already qualified the playoffs and Lucknow just need one more win to register their contention for the trophy of IPL 2022. Having already amassed 16 points, Lucknow Super Giants can easily get the job done but if they lose both matches it will affect their net run rate.

Defeating Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals has also registered their right on the throne. The team led by Rishabh Pant played exceptionally well and defeated the orange and purple cap and also affected their net run rate. Delhi Capitals has couple of matches remaining in the league stage. But both are against two struggling sides – Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings.

Defeating both, Delhi Capitals will have 16 points. And with such points the team will have a genuine chance to register their fourth successive contention for the play-offs.

A win against Delhi Capitals would have kept Rajasthan Royals in a relatively safer place. But now Sanju Samson and company are in a spot of bother. They will now face second-placed Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday and another defeat can easily dent their chances for the play-offs.

Two wins and Faf DuPlessis’s RCB can finish with 18 points. Their chances to qualify for the play-offs is much brighter than others. But still with their negative net run rate, two defeats could send them out.

The second match of the 3-match ODI series between India and Bangladesh is being played in Dhaka. Bangladesh skipper decided to bat first after winning the toss at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur.

In the first match of this series, India had to face defeat by a margin of one wicket. Team India would like to win this match and equalize the series but host Bangladesh are in no mood to let the series slip of their hands.

First they set a target of 272 runs for India to chase and now the host are making Indian batter beg for single runs. In three overs, Men in Blue have just made just 13 runs, plus the team has lost its most precious wickets of opener Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan.

Mehidy Hasan! Man of the moment

Batting first, Bangladesh has set a target of 272 runs in front of India. Mehidy Hasan scored a fine century for Bangladesh. At the same time, Mahmudullah played a brilliant inning of 77 runs. Both of them shared a record partnership of 148 runs for the seventh wicket. In the end, Nasum Ahmed scored 18 runs in 11 balls to take his team’s score beyond 250 runs.

Batting first after winning the toss, Bangladesh did not have a good start. Enamul Haque got out after scoring just 11 runs. By this time Captain Liton Das could not even open his account. He then shared a 28-run partnership with Najmul Hasan Shanto, but Liton Das was also dismissed after scoring seven runs in 23 balls. After this, Bangladesh team kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Shanto at 21, Shakib Al Hasan at 8, Mushfiqur Rahim at 12 and Afif Hussain was dismissed without opening the account.

In 19 overs, Bangladesh had lost six wickets on the score of 69 runs. The Indian bowlers were in excellent touch with Washington Sundar taking three wickets. Siraj took two and Umran took one wicket. All the bowlers bowled economically, but after that Mehdi and Mahmudullah turned the match around. There was a 148-run partnership between the two for the seventh wicket. The pair first batted slowly to put on a half-century partnership and then scored quickly. These two took Bangladesh’s score from 69 to 217.

Skipper Rohit Sharma is retired hurt

Indian captain Rohit Sharma was injured while fielding in the second over of this match. He has injured his thumb. Bangladesh’s Enamul Haque gave an easy catch in the slip off Siraj’s ball, but Rohit could not catch it properly. The ball hit his thumb and soon blood started to flow out. He immediately left the field and was taken to the hospital for the scan. Rajat Patidar was seen fielding in his place. At the same time, Lokesh Rahul was captaining Team India.

Rohit’s injury has added to India’s woes as the skipper did not turn up for opening the Indian innings. The absence of captain Rohit can prove to be a big blow for India. However, it is not yet clear how serious Rohit’s injury is.

Dinesh Karthik breaks silence on Rohit Sharma's poor captaincy stint, says Indian batters are failing the entire team

Team India has not had a satisfactory start of Bangladesh tour. In the first ODI, India lost by a close margin of one wicket and gave a lead of 1-0 to the host. India had scored only 186 runs while batting first, but came close to winning this match.

In such a situation, India’s victory seemed certain, but Indian players lost the match by dropping catches on important occasions. And as they say, catches win you matches, and seems like Team India is still in the T20 zone and is finding it hard to bat and ball for 50-50 overs.

After the match, Dinesh Karthik talked about the shortcomings of Team India. During this, he also targeted skipper Rohit Sharma and raised questions on Rohit’s captaincy. He also discussed the bating of men in blue fiercely.

Karthik said that Rohit Sharma should know know that the team did not bowl well in those last 6 overs. DK added that Rohit Sharma made a mistake by not giving a single over to any spinner. Shabaz got five and Washington Sundar got five wickets and there were overs left to bowl. In such a situation, Bangladesh batsmen could have been forced to go for big shots by deploying fielders on the boundary line, but Team India did not do so. However, India did not lose the match because of bowling.

Karthik said that the fact that let them down to a great extent was Team India’s batting. The bowlers did a great job taking nine wickets and got India in a strong position at the end of 40 overs. Things got worse after that. But no partnership in those last eight overs, that was the main reason for the match losing out of Indian hands. Moreover after the match was over, Indian captain Rohit Sharma also admitted that his batsmen needed to perform better.
