Introducing Matthew to the world, new skipper Ben Stokes didn’t go on with a paragraph of praises, instead he just said “This kid is ready.” And Potts did not fail his captain and bagged the wicket of Williamson, marking his debut in International Test cricket.

Currently, England is taking down New Zealand in the 3-match bilateral Test series.  Matthew Potts has made his Test debut for England against New Zealand in the first test and with the character he has shown, it is safe to say that his place is the team is reserved.

Coming through the Durham ranks, Potts played for the U-19 England team. He made his first-class debut against Kent. Taking Matthew in the team was a master strokes by Stokes as the 23-year-old is an all-rounder. He is a medium pace bowler and is more than capable to bat down the order.

Matthew Potts has taken 77 wickets in 24 FC matches, at a strike rate of 55.3 with 2.91 economy. Moreover, the debutant also has four 5-wicket hauls to his name.  Matthew has the capable to derive good bounce from length balls, something which can be fatal in Test cricket.

As far as Pott’s batting is concerned, he has scored 447 runs in 24 matches with the average of 17.19, here two half-centuries are also included. Having the highest score of 81 runs, Matthew James Potts is living his life-long dream.

The first session of the three-match bilateral test series is owned by the England Team. As New Zealand has already lost their six wickets, including all the good and experienced batsmen. However, it will be interesting to see if Kane Williamson and his team will be able to pull themselves up from this situation.
