IND vs NZ ODI

The ongoing 3-match ODI series between India and New Zealand is getting interesting over-by-over. Hosts invited India to bat first after winning the toss and India gave a good defending total of 307 runs for black caps to chase.

Indian batters were in a good form. From stand-in captain Shikhar Dhawan to the middle order, majority batsmen contributed in giving a giant total to New Zealand. Captain Shikhar Dhawan scored 72 runs and Shubman Gill scored 50 runs. Both of them added 124 runs for the first wicket.

However, Shreyas Iyer scored the most runs for India. He played an inning of 80 runs off 76 balls. Shreyas hit four fours and four sixes in his innings with a strike rate of 105.26.

Alongside being the highest Indian scorer in the first ODI, Shreyas also marked a special record in his name. Today Shreyas scored his fourth consecutive 50+ innings in One Day Internationals on New Zealand soil. He has also become the first batsman from India to achieve this milestone. Shreyas had earlier scored 103 runs in 107 balls, 52 runs in 57 balls, 62 runs in 63 balls in the last three ODI innings during India’s tour of New Zealand in 2020.

With this he has also become the second batsman to have such stats. Earlier, former Pakistan captain Rameez Raja had played four 50+ innings in ODIs during New Zealand tour. And now Shreyas has equaled Rameez Raja. Apart from Shreyas, Sanju Samson played an inning of 36 runs in 38 balls. Washington Sundar played an unbeaten inning of 37 runs in 16 balls with the help of three fours and three sixes.

Currently, New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson and Tom Latham are playing at the loss of three wickets. Williamson has also scored another half century and is the biggest hope for black caps.

Dinesh Karthik breaks silence on Rohit Sharma's poor captaincy stint, says Indian batters are failing the entire team

Team India has not had a satisfactory start of Bangladesh tour. In the first ODI, India lost by a close margin of one wicket and gave a lead of 1-0 to the host. India had scored only 186 runs while batting first, but came close to winning this match.

In such a situation, India’s victory seemed certain, but Indian players lost the match by dropping catches on important occasions. And as they say, catches win you matches, and seems like Team India is still in the T20 zone and is finding it hard to bat and ball for 50-50 overs.

After the match, Dinesh Karthik talked about the shortcomings of Team India. During this, he also targeted skipper Rohit Sharma and raised questions on Rohit’s captaincy. He also discussed the bating of men in blue fiercely.

Karthik said that Rohit Sharma should know know that the team did not bowl well in those last 6 overs. DK added that Rohit Sharma made a mistake by not giving a single over to any spinner. Shabaz got five and Washington Sundar got five wickets and there were overs left to bowl. In such a situation, Bangladesh batsmen could have been forced to go for big shots by deploying fielders on the boundary line, but Team India did not do so. However, India did not lose the match because of bowling.

Karthik said that the fact that let them down to a great extent was Team India’s batting. The bowlers did a great job taking nine wickets and got India in a strong position at the end of 40 overs. Things got worse after that. But no partnership in those last eight overs, that was the main reason for the match losing out of Indian hands. Moreover after the match was over, Indian captain Rohit Sharma also admitted that his batsmen needed to perform better.
