The Indian cricket team is currently in New Zealand to play their bilateral T20I and ODI series. Team India was supposed to play their first fixture against New Zealand on Friday. However, due to the weather conditions not allowing the two teams to battle it out, the first fixture was abandoned without even a ball bowled.
The forecast for the second fixture will again be an upset for the cricket fans as the match, which is supposed to be held on Sunday, will probably see the same weather trend as the forecast shows chances of thunderstorms or a washout during the second IND vs NZ second T20I.
In the absence of the senior players namely, Virat Kohli, Skipper Rohit Sharma, wicket keeper Dinesh Kartik, and pacer Mohamad Shami; several young players like Umraan Malik, Mohmmad Siraj and Washington Sundar, Ishan Kishan and Shubhman Gill have a golden chance to stake their claim for the T20I format team if they deliver for the team in the bilateral series.
Due to Rohit Sharma’s absence, Hardik Pandya will spearhead the T20I team in a bid to reform the leadership structure of the team. Hardik Pandya has previously led the team thrice, twice against Ireland and once against West Indies. The change in captaincy and the squad for the T20 format comes at a time when the selection committee was blamed for their erroneous in selecting the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2022.
The Indian Cricket team T20 World Cup campaign started off on a good note, however, many players inconsistency turned out to be the bane for the Indian side. Many cricket critics came forward and credited Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya for their performance but despite their stellar stint, the Indian Team failed to perform against the English side in the semi-finals which put India’s T20 World Cup dreams to sleep.
The Indian Cricket team is set to get through restructuring as the BCCI Senior selection committee was sacked by the BCCI on Friday.
As per for the T20I bilateral series, the squad and schedule for Team India’s fixture against New Zealand are as follows:
