Pat Cummins sold to SRH for Rs 20.50 crore, highest bid in the history of IPL

The audience at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai and every auction table cheered upon hearing that the 20-crore barrier had been crossed for the first time in the history of the IPL auction.

Australia fast bowler Pat Cummins rose to become the most expensive player in Indian Premier League history.

Sun Risers Hyderabad (SRH) purchased the World Cup 2023 winning captain for Rs 20.50 crore following a fierce bidding battle involving the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and the Hyderabad team.

In order to address the deficiencies in the bowling department from the previous two seasons, SRH was searching for a player with leadership qualities. Australia won the World Test Championship in 2023 and the ODI World Cup in November under Cummins’ leadership.

The bowler, who took wickets of Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer to end the Indian innings, had an amazing performance in the ODI World Cup final in Ahmedabad.

Even though Cummins hasn’t always bowled well in T20, the fast bowler has regularly brought a high price in the Indian Premier League. Cummins was purchased by the Kolkata Knight Riders for an incredible amount of Rs 15.50 crore back in the 2019 auction.

Sam Curran set a record on Tuesday, December 19, when he sold for Rs 18.50 crore in the 2023 auction. Cummins shattered that record. The audience at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai and every auction table cheered upon hearing that the 20-crore barrier had been crossed for the first time in the history of the IPL auction.

Cummins joins Travis Head, a teammate from Australia and one of the best recent international batters, at SRH. Head was previously purchased at auction for Rs 6.8 crore. The purchases made by SRH show that the team’s departments have all had new hires. It is anticipated that SRH will alter their favoured starting lineup for the upcoming tournament.

Meanwhile, Punjab was unable to get Mitchell, they were able to sign India all-rounder Harshal Patel after using their 11.75 crore after beating the Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Kings.
