With a 0-1 deficit in the five-match series, Team India dealt with two major blows on Monday. Both KL Rahul, and Ravindra Jadeja was ruled out of the second Test against England, which is scheduled to begin in Vizag on Friday.
A BCCI statement said, on Day 4 of the first Test in Hyderabad, Jadeja was injured in the hamstring while Rahul reported having soreness in his right quadriceps. The players are being watched by the BCCI medical team, as they have three more matches to play following the match in Vizag.
KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja will not play in the second IDFC First Bank Test against England in Vizag, which is scheduled to begin on February 02, 2024. On Day 4 of the first Test in Hyderabad, Jadeja injured his hamstring while Rahul reported having soreness in his right quadriceps. Washington Sundar, Sourabh Kumar, and Sarfaraz Khan have been added to the Indian squad for the second Test. Following a 28-run loss in the series opener in Hyderabad on Sunday, India is now down 0-1 in the five-match series.
The Men’s Selection Committee have added Sarfaraz Khan, Sourabh Kumar and Washington Sundar to India’s squad, said a release.
For the three-match Test series against the England Lions, Sarfaraz and Sundar were a part of the India A squad.
In the second Test in Ahmedabad, India A defeated England Lions by an innings and sixteen runs thanks to a spectacular 161 from Sarfaraz. In contrast, Sundar amassed a half-century and claimed two wickets during the match.
Pacer Avesh Khan will continue to tour with his Madhya Pradesh Ranji Trophy side, according to the BCCI, and he will join the Test team if needed.
