[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Committee of Administrators (CoA) chairman Vinod Rai has found the comments made by Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul on the Karan Johar talk show “very crass” and recommended a two-match suspension for both players.
The Committee of Administrators runs the BCCI.
Earlier, on Wednesday the Indian cricketers were issued show cause notices by the BCCI for their “misogynistic”, “racially insensitive” and “sexist” comments on a TV show that triggered a massive outrage. The CoA had given 24 hours to respond, to which Pandya offered his “regrets”. He had also posted an apology on Twitter.
Rai had said, “We have sent showcause notices to Hardik Pandya and K L Rahul for their comments. They have been given 24 hours to give an explanation.”
Pandya apologized for his remarks, saying he got “carried away by the nature” of the show. Rahul, on the other hand, has not yet responded to the criticism. The 25-year-old all-rounder and Rahul had appeared together on the celebrity chat show Koffee with Karan, hosted by film-maker Karan Johar, where they made the offending comments.
Taking to Twitter, Pandya posted, “After reflecting on my comments on Koffee with Karan, I would like to apologise to everyone concerned who I may have hurt in any way.”
His apology didn’t cut much ice with the COA chairman. Recommending a two-match suspension for both players, Rai has asked the BCCI chief executive Rahul Johri to draft the instruction subject to fellow CoA member Diana Edulji’s approval. Pandya is in the Indian squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series in Australia, commencing on Saturday.
“I have seen the remarks made by these two players on the show in print today (Thursday). Very crass. No apology can cover it. I had asked Diana to suggest penalty because I had not seen the clip. I think we need to give both of them a two match suspension. If Diana agrees, Rahul please draft an appropriate instruction and issue today as their explanations have come in,” Rai wrote in his email, adding: “Separately please prepare an advisory to all BCCI contracted players and support staff.”
Edulji, meanwhile, has asked the BCCI acting Secretary Amitabh Choudhary and the cricket board’s legal team to send in their opinion.
Pandya, when the the host of the chat show asked him why he hesitated in asking women their names in clubs, had answered “I like to watch and observe how they (women) move. I’m a little from the black side so I need to see how they move.”
These comments drew attention of the nation and made women really furious. Not just the poor taste of words for women, these words were also deemed racist.
Furthermore, Pandya also flaunted about how he hooked up with multiple women and how his parents were absolutely open about the choices he made.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
