Sunil Gavaskar backs Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma to play T20 World Cup 2024

Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has backed Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to make a comeback in T20Is, especially with the World Cup in sight. As the 20 teams build up towards the mega event, the cricketing circles in India are amidst an important discussion regarding the potential comeback of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Gavaskar said that besides their batting prowess, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli remain brilliant on the field, adding further firepower to the Indian lineup. Speaking to the media Gavaskar said Virat Kohli’s form has been outstanding for the past 1.5 years. He said Virat played brilliantly at the ODI World Cup. He said there should be no debate over Virat’s batting prowess in limited-overs cricket. Gavaskar added both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are excellent fielders.

He said a player slows down when reaches 35-36 years and the throw is also not good anymore. He said there are discussions over where one has to keep a player while setting the field. Gavaskar said it was not a problem for these two players as both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are terrific fielders.

Rohit and Kohli’s last appearance for India was in the 2022 T20 World Cup, where the team experienced a semi-final exit. According to reports both Vrat Kohli and Rohit Sharma along with KL Rahul have been phased out of T20Is due to their dwindling strike rates but with the 2024 edition of the tournament approaching, reports are also suggesting thaht they might make a comeback.

After Rohit was phased out, Hardik Pandya assumed the leadership role, although without a formal announcement. His prolonged absence made Pandya the likely captain for the upcoming World Cup. Rohits’s potential comeback has reignited the leadership discussions now. Gavaskar believes that it is paramount for him and Kohli to make a return to T20Is for the World Cup.

Rajasthan Royals pulled off Indian Premier League’s biggest run chase to defeat Kolkata Knight Riders by two wickets on Tuesday. KKR were asked to bat first and rode on Sunil Narine’s 56-ball 109 to take their team to a respectable total of 223/6 in 20 overs. In response, RR were in trouble at one stage of the match but Jos Buttler helped the team recover with an unbeaten 60-ball 107, as the visitors completed the run chase in the last delivery of the match.

The England captain began the last over hitting a six off the first ball, he then had to turn down runs off the next 4 balls, thus bringing the equation down to Rajasthan Royals needing 3 runs to win off the last 2 balls. Buttler then hobbled 2 runs off the 2nd last ball of the match and took a single off the last delivery and thus took RR to a record-equalling run chase.

Earlier the Kolkata Knight Riders were asked to bat first on a fresh pitch, Narine blasted a 49-ball 100 to lead KKR’s innings in this match at Eden Gardens. It was a one-man show from KKR as Narine (109 off 56) took his team till the 18th over, forging a 85 run partnership with Angkrish Raghuvanshi (30) and then adding 51 runs along with Andre Russell (13). KKR reached a score of 223/6 in 20 overs batting first.

KKR’s bowling attack could not go unnoticed as the likes of Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine both shone to help keep the home side in the fight, but the effort seemed to be in vain. It was merely a case of who wanted to win more on the match day. And Buttler showed that he wanted it the most, as he led Rajasthan Royals to a historic run-chase, the biggest successful run-chase in the history of the IPL.

Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday broke their record of scoring the highest total in the Indian Premier League (IPL), as they hit 287 runs in 20 overs against Royal Challengers Bangalore at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. During the innings, 22 sixes were shot, along with 19 boundaries, by the power hitters of Sunrisers Hyderabad – Travis Head (102), Abhishek Sharma (34), Heinrich Klaasen (67), Aiden Markram (32) and Abdul Samad (37).

Pat Cummins bowled a disciplined lined line and length and returned with figures of 3/43 to win the contest. Dinesh Karthik was the top scorer for Royal Challengers Bengaluru hitting 83 of 35 balls. RCB ended up taking the match closer than expected and SRH won the game by 25 runs.

The match between Royal challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad was not an ordinary one, as many new records were made and broken. The Sunrisers Hyderbad broke their previous record of scoring 277 runs against Mumbai Indians in the current IPL tournament. Not only the current total of 287 is the highest in IPL tournaments so far, but it is also the second-highest score in T20 cricket history.

Virat Kohli (42) and captain Faf du Plesis(62) gave their team a good start before Dinesh Karthik smashed 83 off 35 balls as RCB ended on 262-7. SRH captain pat Cummins and spinner Makank Markande broke the back of the Bengaluru chase with 5 wickets between them. Pat Cummins said after winning the match against Mumbai Indians a few weeks ago he thought this would not happen again, but it has happened again.

Shah Rukh Khan always takes the limelight whenever he attends an Indian Premiere League (IPL) match. The Bollywood actor and Kolkata Knight Riders owner was at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens stadium to cheer for his team. But a sweet post-match gesture by him is now being shared online.

A video circulating on social media shows Shah Rukh Khan picking up discarded KKR flags off seats and the floor of the VIP section. He picks up a few of them and hands it to his bodyguard. Fans can be heard screaming his name, asking him to wave at them. After cleaning up the area, Shah Rukh Khan turns around and gives his fans a flying kiss.

Also after the match, Shah Rukh Khan met a few players and fans on the cricket field. He wore a purple KKR T-shirt and black pants. He also tied his hair in a messy manner. The video has gone viral on social media with 104900 views, 190 retweets and 1100 likes till now which are only increasing. One X user Kalpana Bansal wrote niji Zindagi mein aise hi hai SRK King Khan down to earth and shy.

Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter Suhana Khan and younger son AbRam were also seen at the match. Suhana’s BFF Ananya Panday also accompanied the Khans. Both the young actors shared photos and videos from the match on social media. Suhana Khan took to her Instagram handle, and shared her joy and posted multiple happy images from the stands.
